AURORA | The Aurora Central football team matched its win total for the entire 2024 season — two — with Thursday night’s 19-8 non-conference Week 3 victory over Gateway.

Coach Chris Kelly’s Trojans (2-1) lost a one-point contest to the Olys last season, but took the victory in the rematch by taking advantage of extra opportunities in a close contest at Aurora Public Schools Stadium.

Aurora Central got two rushing touchdowns from junior quarterback Markell Perkins and another ground score from senior Felix Morales in a bounceback from a 30-point loss to Highlands Ranch the previous week.

Coach Rashad Mason’s Gateway (0-3) team got on the scoreboard late in the opening half on a touchdown pass from junior quarterback Westin Rayburn to senior Ziah Hendrix and junior Lyric Wynn’s two-point conversion run.

Aurora Central goes on the road for a 6:30 p.m. contest against Greeley Central on Sept. 18, the same day and time that Gateway is on the home turf at APS Stadium to play Adams City.
