Football: Eaglecrest can’t overcome turnovers, Angels in 30-14 defeat

DENVER | Penalties and turnovers plagued Eaglecrest in a season-opening loss to Denver East Saturday at All-City Stadium.

The Raptors trailed by just two points at halftime, but the Angels intercepted quarterback Adan Soto three times in the second half — including one returned for a touchdown — and scored 14 unanswered points on their way to a 30-14 non-league victory.

Ryan Willey had a 66-yard touchdown run and TreShawn Wilford caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Soto in the first half for Eaglecrest.

Willey finished with 119 yards rushing and 57 yards receiving, Wilford had 54 yards receiving and Soto finished with 143 yards passing for the Raptors.

Star running back Shahid Hoover took his first touch of the game 73 yards for a touchdown and finished with 172 yards rushing and a score for Denver East, which also got rushing scores from Davon McCuien and Cody Summers and a 57-yard interception return TD from Tristan Stacks.
