AURORA | While it honored its seniors, the Aurora Central football team showed the potential for an exciting future Saturday at Aurora Public Schools Stadium.
Sophomores Cai’Reis Curby and Simeon Veasley produced all six touchdowns scored by coach DaVaughn Thornton Sr.’s Trojans — plus five two-point conversions — in a 50-0 rout of visiting Sierra that moved them to 3-2 in the penultimate week of the spring regular season.
Veasley rushed for three touchdowns and Curby ran for two scores and threw for another as Aurora Central rang up its most points since it scored 52 against Harrison on Sept. 25, 2015, a span of 52 games.
The Trojans’ defense contributed to that as well with a pair of safeties, while it held Sierra (0-5) to negative total yards for the game and recorded the program’s first shutout since the midway point of the 2017 season.
Even in a shortened season, Aurora Central has as many wins as it has had in the past three seasons combined.
The Trojans cap the regular season with an April 22 contest against Gateway (2-3) at APS Stadium.
