Twelve Colorado boys basketball players were selected to go to one of four new NCAA youth development camps across the country.

Zion Ruckard and Ty Robinson of Eaglecrest, Overland’s Graham Ike and Grandview’s Caleb McGill are among the group picked for the Western Regional camps set for July 23-25 (Session 1) and July 26-28 (Session 2) at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.

Ruckard and McGill were picked for Session 1 along with Dominique Clifford (Vanguard), Javonte Johnson (Cheyenne Mountain) and Lucas Moerman (Doherty).

Ike and Robinson were selected for Session 2 and will be joined by Trevor Baskin (Pomona), Cole Bott (Valor Christian), Kwaheem Brown (Lincoln) and Reece Johnson (Resurrection Christian).

All four of the Aurora selections took part in the Centennial State Grandstand live viewing event in June played at Cherokee Trail High School and Fox Ridge Middle School. Ike made the all-tournament team, as Clifford and Johnson (the MVP) for Colorado.

Ike, McGill and Ruckard are all about to enter their senior years, while Robinson is a junior-to-be. All four were selected for the 2019 A-Town All-Star Game and all played save for McGill, who was recovering from injury.

The NCAA has touted the camps as an opportunity for the players picked to “develop their skills while also preparing them for college both as a student and an athlete.”

The NCAA will also foot the cost for the players and a chaperone — such as a parent or guardian — and the camp will provide a mix of skills work along with instruction on “the academic eligibility process, health and wellness and other life-skills programming.”
