AURORA | With his much-anticipated senior season ahead, Eaglecrest boys basketball star Colbey Ross made a much-anticipated announcement Monday.
The dymanic senior guard — who helped the Raptors reach last season’s Class 5A state championship game and the driving force towards a possible title in 2016-17 — used Twitter to announce his verbal commitment to Pepperdine University.
Ross, the Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year and a participant in the first A-Town All-Star Game for his play in the 2015-16 season, just made his official visit to the campus in Malibu, California, and decided the offer was too good to pass up. Under coach Marty Wilson, Pepperdine has finished 18-14 in each of the past two seasons.

Eaglecrest coach John Olander always mentioned Ross’ contributions as a leader first and foremost for his team, but his statistical contributions are remarkable as well.
Ross averaged 18.6 points per game in a season in which he poured in 20 or more points 10 times and went over 30 twice, including a season-high 38 — the top effort for any player from an Aurora school on the season — in a monster 69-56 win over Denver East on Jan. 25. He scored 27 points for Eaglecrest in its 66-56 loss to Overland in the 5A state championship game and averaged 23.3 points per game in three contests against a Trailblazers’ team considered the best in the state defensively.
Ross’ older brother, Elijah, is currently on the roster at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.
