AURORA | As the last Class 5A boys basketball team in the state to play their opening game, the rust was evident for Eaglecrest Thursday night.

Coming off quarantine that started early last week and cost them three games, the Raptors misfired off in the early going and took awhile to get their legs under them against rival Grandview, but closed strong and came away with a 56-44 road victory.

Senior Adrian Price scored a game-high 17 points for coach Jarris Krapcha’s Eaglecrest team, which also got 13 from senior Ty Robinson and 11 from junior Jayden Washington.

Coach Ryan Turk’s Wolves had three games under their belt coming into the game, but never found a rhythm and struggled from the free throw line in the second half when they were in range. Senior Jericho Gutierrez and junior Jonathan Broadus paced Grandview (1-3) with 10 points apiece.

The teams are scheduled to play again Feb. 26.

Eaglecrest lost three games due to quarantine, but have added two quality matchups back to its schedule with a road game at Fossil Ridge (3-0) Friday and an away game at Chaparral (4-0) Feb. 9.

Grandview, meanwhile, plays host to Smoky Hill (2-2) Feb. 10.
