AURORA | Archie Weatherspoon V will help pack the Rangeview gymnasium for the upcoming boys basketball season with his play.
He filled plenty of chairs Sunday with people eager to see where he is headed next.
Flanked by mother Ashley, father Archie IV and younger brother Ashton, Weatherspoon V picked his path from a double-digit number of Division I college offers and revealed that choice to a significant group of friends, family and supporters in the school’s auditorium.
“Eventually I knew I had to choose one, so with that being said, I’m excited to announce I’m committing to, Cal Poly,” Weatherspoon V said as he stood and revealed a green and golf t-shirt bearing the logo of California Polytechnic, located in San Luis Obispo, California.
Weatherspoon V has been a three-year starter for Rangeview and helped lead coach Shawn Palmer’s programs to consecutive trips to the Class 6A Final Four. The Raiders have a 61-17 record since Weatherspoon V arrived as a freshman and cracked the starting lineup.
A consensus top-three recruit in Colorado in the Class of 2027, Weatherspoon V has a career average of 14.4 points, 3.4 assists and 3.1 rebounds per contest. In his junior season, the 6-foot-3 guard averaged 19.4 points and 3.7 assists per contest.
Buffalo, Cal, Creighton, Denver, Montana, Northern Colorado, University of Nevada-Las Vegas, UTEP and High Point were also in the mix for Weatherspoon V.
