AURORA | Standing at the free throw line in the closing seconds of yet another game, Larry Bridges wasn’t going to miss.
The Rangeview senior forward — who missed two free throws in the final minute of a two-point loss to Valor Christian a week earlier — calmly cashed in his tie-breaking foul shot with 5.8 seconds left in overtime, completing a 3-point play that lifted the Raiders to an improbable 72-71 victory over visiting Cherokee Trail Friday night.
Jeremiah Paige scored a game-high 28 points, Bridges added 20 and brother Trey 11 as Rangeview rallied from a six-point deficit with 36.3 seconds remaining, forced overtime and outscored the Cougars 8-7 in the four-minute overtime to improve to 6-1.
Drick Bernstine scored 25 points and pulled down 17 points for Cherokee Trail, which had a two-point lead with 15 seconds remaining in overtime on a David Thornton lay-up before Larry Bridges’ final play.
The Cougars, who also got 10 points each from freshmen Thornton and Ronnie Barfield, fell to 3-2 on the season.
