Boys Basketball: Smoky Hill grabs emotional victory over Grandview

119

AURORA | The feeling was much different for the Smoky Hill boys basketball team this season in its first meeting with Grandview.

The Buffaloes lost twice to the Wolves in Centennial League play a year ago — falling once by 50 points and a second time by 26 — but turned the tables Friday night with an emotional 72-65 victory in front of a raucous crowd at Smoky Hill.

Senior Chris Williams scored 24 points and Trent Clay, Unwana Ekiko and Colby Johnson added 11 points each in a balanced effort for coach Keenon Clement’s Buffaloes (7-5 overall, 1-3 in the Centennial League), who outscored the 10th-ranked Wolves 24-17 in the final period for their first win in the series since the 2011-12 season.

Senior Keanu Flores scored 13 points to lead Grandview, which lost for the fourth time in the last five games to fall to 8-5 and 1-3 in league. Senior Irane Sharp and juniors Jarred Burr and Andrew Joiner contribute 11 each for coach Gary Childress’ team.
