AURORA | Coming off a rugged week of competition, the Rangeview boys basketball team looked to continue to get back on track in Thursday night’s non-league contest at Aurora Central.
Starting hot before winter break, coach Shawn Palmer’s Raiders lost their first four games when play resumed with a daunting schedule that included back-to-back games against Regis Jesuit and ThunderRidge — the Nos. 1 and 2 teams in the Class 5A Associated Press media poll — plus matchups against No. 9 Cherry Creek and a road contest against an 8-win Boulder team.
Rangeview (8-5) began to right the ship with a quality win at George Washington on Wednesday and kept that momentum rolling from the opening tip against the Trojans, building a 20-point lead after one quarter and continued to add to it the rest of the way.
Five players finished in double figures, led by junior Kris Hollins with 16 points, followed by seniors Jalen Davis (15), Tarren Storey-Way (12), Tyrei Randall (11) and Tim Wyatt (10) as the Raiders posted their second-highest point total of the season.
In the midst of a very tough stretch of the schedule of its own, coach Ian Calvert’s Aurora Central team got 17 points apiece from junior Ladarius Thomas and sophomore Marquise Johnson, while 6-foot-7 junior Datone Jennings — a move-in just cleared to play — chipped in 12.
Trojans dropped to 7-6 overall.
Aurora Central and Rangeview meet again on Feb. 11 at Rangeview in a game that counts in the EMAC standings.
Both teams face Aurora opponents in their next contests on Saturday, as the Trojans play host to Smoky Hill at 1 p.m. and the Raiders welcome in Vista PEAK at 2 p.m.
