AURORA | With a full lineup and a lot of momentum, the Overland boys basketball team launched itself right back in the Centennial League championship chase Wednesday night.
The Trailblazers played without junior big man De’Ron Davis in a road loss to Eaglecrest a few weeks ago, but had him back in the lineup for the rematch and continued to put things together with a 74-61 victory over the Raptors.
Five players scored in double figures for coach Danny Fisher’s Overland team, ranked No. 4 in the latest Associated Press Class 5A poll, led by junior Reggie Gibson with 15 and seniors Ryan Swan and Austin Conway with 14 and 13, respectively.
Davis chipped in 11 and junior Alijah Halliburton 10 as the Trailblazers (13-5 overall, 8-1 in Centennial League) won their seventh straight game, while halting the nine-game win streak of the third-ranked Raptors (14-4, 8-1).
Sophomore Colbey Ross finished with 19 points, senior Peter Anderson added 15 and senior Elijah Ross 13 for coach John Olander’s team, which hadn’t lost since Dec. 19, 2014, at the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas.
