AURORA | Coming off a 92-point game, the Grandview boys basketball team couldn’t find its offense anywhere Tuesday night.

The Wolves racked up 159 points in winning their first two games of the season, but scored in doubles figures in only two quarters in a 69-40 loss to visiting Fossil Ridge.

With a decided size advantage in the paint, the SaberCats had little trouble finding the basket as they posted a pair of 20-point quarters and had four starters contribute 10 points or more as they moved to 4-0.

Fossil Ridge knocked off an Aurora team in its previous game as well with a 58-51 victory over Eaglecrest on Dec. 7 in the championship game of the GoJo Sports Tipoff Classic.

Alex Semadeni had a game-high 14 points for the SaberCats — 12 of them in the second half — while Sawyer Novak added 12 and Brandon Bodnar and Matt Laine 10 each.

Coach Gary Childress’ Grandview team, which suffered its first loss after road wins at Columbine and Liberty, had just one player reach double figures in junior Jarred Burr, who made three of the team’s four 3-pointers and finished with 11.

Junior Andrew Joiner added eight points for the Wolves, who scored just nine points in the pivotal second quarter — when Fossil Ridge expanded its lead from four to 11 points — and six in the fourth quarter when the outcome was all but decided.

Grandview tries to get back on track in a 7 p.m. contest Thursday at Highlands Ranch.
