AURORA | Eaglecrest has the late time slot in the March 15 semifinals as the Raptors seek to continue their quest for a shot at the Class 5A boys state basketball championship.

Second-seeded Eaglecrest (21-5) is scheduled to face No. 1 Mountain Vista (23-2) at 8:30 p.m. at the Coors Events Center on the University of Colorado in Boulder in the second of two 5A semifinals and the fourth game overall at the venue.

Coach John Olander’s Raptors advanced to the semifinals with a 64-57 victory over top-seeded Regis Jesuit on Friday at the Denver Coliseum, with a big steal and three-point play by senior TreShawn Wilford in the final minute giving them the needed cushion.

Eaglecrest last appeared in the 5A semifinals in the 2007-08 season and lost to Denver East.

It was nearly an all-Aurora semifinal, but Mountain Vista outlasted Cherokee Trail 78-76 in double overtime in another Great 8 meeting.

The winner advances to the 5A state championship game, set for 8 p.m. March 16 at the Coors Events Center. They will face the winner of the 7 p.m. Friday semifinal between top-seeded Denver East (24-2) and sixth-seeded Legend (21-6).

Two 4A boys semifinals take the Coors Events Center floor before the 5A games, as Broomfield and Valor Christian play at 4 p.m. and Palmer goes against Wasson at 5:30 p.m.
