AURORA | Reece Weber’s reputation as a power hitter precedes him, so he doesn’t see many fastball these days.

Grandview’s senior slugger knew what to do with the one he got during the third inning of Saturday’s Centennial League matchup against visiting Cherokee Trail.

Weber turned around a fastball from Cougars starter Jordan Smith and drove it over the fence in right center field for a three-run home run that got the Wolves rolling on their way to an 8-3 victory. Weber helped himself earn the win on the mound, as he went five innings and allowed two runs on five hits.

Jake Thurston went 3-for-4 and Rory Stewart doubled and scored twice to help Grandview to its ninth straight victory. The Wolves improved to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Cherokee Trail took a 2-0 lead on Alex Achtermann’s two-run double in the second inning, but scored just one more run against Weber and reliever Eric Olguin in falling to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the Centennial League.
