AURORA | Sophomore Diego Velasquez earned himself and the Smoky Hill baseball team a win with a walk-off grand slam March 17 in the Buffaloes’ 10-8 non-league win over Fort Collins.

Velasquez came on in relief of starter Ayden Grimble and surrendered a two-run home run to the Lambkins’ Blake Templeton in the top of the seventh inning, but came up in the bottom of the inning with the bases loaded.

He was 0-for-3 at that point, but cleared the bases with his game-winning blast.

Sophomore Dylan McKee went 3-for-3 and scored three times to lead Smoky Hill’s offensive attack and joined senior Isaac Sprinkle with two RBI.

Smoky Hill moved to 3-1 on the season ahead of a March 22 home game against Adams City (1-2).
