AURORA | Regis Jesuit ace Caleb Sloan had to come out of Monday’s game against Castle View one out shy of a complete game.
With a section of Major League Baseball scouts onhand with radar guns in hand, the Texas Christian University-bound right-hander struck out 11 SaberCats and got within an out of closing out a Continental League victory.
A two-out single in the top of the seventh brought Sloan to his pitch count, however, so he had to yield the mound to senior reliever Michael Baer. Baer allowed his inherited runner to score, but secured the final out for a 4-3 Raiders’ victory.
Coach Matt Darr’s Regis Jesuit (7-2 overall, 1-0 in league) team won its seventh straight game despite just three hits.
The Raiders staked Sloan to a 4-0 lead after two innings with a pair of two-run rallies against Castle View (5-5, 0-1) and starter Ryan Windham.
Geno Macias and Orlando Trujillo knocked in runs early for Regis Jesuit and Sloan did the rest as he improved to 3-0 overall with a 2.03 ERA.
Sloan kept the SaberCats off the board until the fourth inning when they scored twice on a single and run-scoring groundout.
The Raiders continue Continental League play when ThunderRidge comes to visit at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.
