LAKEWOOD | Senior Luke Reasbeck gave the Regis Jesuit baseball team exactly what it needed at this stage of the Class 5A Baseball Championship Series — a full seven innings.

The senior right-hander navigated trouble on several occasions against fifth-seeded Broomfield Friday morning at All-Star Park, but bore down to finish off a 6-4 victory that sent the sixth-seeded Raiders into a semifinal matchup with No. 1 Grandview.

Backed by a nine-hit attack that included a five-run rally in the third inning, Reasbeck scattered six hits and struck out six to give coach Matt Darr’s team a big boost as it seeks a return to play for the state championship.

“Luke was huge, that’s what he’s given us all year,” Regis Jesuit senior catcher Nick Wiley said of Reasbeck. “He competes every time he’s on the mound, so getting seven innings from him is pretty big. …That’s the last time I’m going to catch him, so there’s nothing better than a seven-inning W.”

Junior Jacob Olson had a two-run double in Regis Jesuit’s rally, which also saw seniors Christian Lopez, Isak Stevenson and Gavin Cronin drive in runs, while junior Deion Cesario-Scott homered as a pinch hitter late for the Raiders.

The Eagles put two runs on the board in the first inning with help of one of four Regis Jesuit miscues, as a line drive single got under the glove of senior center field Christian Lopez and rolled to the wall, which allowed Caden Williams to score and sent Talan Hutchings to third, where he would later score on another error.

The resilient Raiders responded in the third inning as they sent nine hitters to the plate against Broomfield starter Maverick Scarpella and five of them came across. Hitting in the No. 9 hole, sophomore Diesel Bernosky ignited the rally with a leadoff triple and was singled home by Lopez, who scored on an infield grounder by senior Isak Stevenson.

The rally also included a two-run double by Olson — who was in the lineup after not playing in the opening three games — plus an RBI single by Cronin.

Staked to a lead, Reasbeck got out of a bases loaded jam unscathed in the bottom of the third inning when he got powerful Nate Wochner to fly out to center field and he also faced trouble (again created by an error) in the fifth. Williamson’s two-strike triple brought the Eagles within 5-4 and an intentional walk to Wochner loaded the bases with one out.

Reasbeck got a comebacker from JC Smith that produced a force out at home plate and then he got a strikeout on a check swing appeal with a full count to Tripp Bemis at the plate to end the threat.

Regis Jesuit’s offense had slowed against Broomfield reliever Clayton Green, so Darr turned to his bench and inserted back-to-back pinch hitters in the sixth in juniors Carter Rathbun and Cesario-Scott. While Rathbun flew out to left field, Cesario-Scott unloaded a ball that ended up over the right field fence for his first hit since way back on April 16 and his first home run of the season.

Reasbeck worked around a leadoff walk to close out the game and give him a final record of 6-1.
