The Grandview baseball team picked up four nice victories on a Spring Break trip to California for the Anaheim Lions Tournament.
Coach Scott Henry’s Wolves defeated three teams from California (6-1 over Sunny Hills, 6-1 over Kennedy and 16-1 over Buena Park) and capped their visit March 28 with a 10-6 victory over Downers Grove South from Illinois.
Junior Jayden Martinez had a massive tournament offensively for Grandview, as he collected 10 hits in 13 at-bats (five for extra bases), scored seven times and knocked in five runs.
Gino Vigil, Luke La Flam, Preston Ederhoff and Josh Hojnowski picked up pitching wins for the Wolves.
Regis Jesuit played five California teams in the same tournament and came away with just one victory. Coach Matt Darr’s Raiders bounced back from two opening losses to beat Loyola 12-5, then suffered one-run defeats to Tesoro (6-5 in 9 innings) and La Canada (8-7) to return to Colorado 2-5.
Junior Caden Wagner piled up nine hits in 19 at-bats on the trip, while fellow junior Geno Macias went 8-for-17 with four extra base hits and five runs driven in.
Senior Matthew Boyd earned the only pitching win for the Raiders.
