AURORA | Soggy weather pushed back the second day of the Class 5A state baseball championship series to Sunday.

Action at All-City Field and Bishop Machebeuf was put on hold, giving Grandview and Regis Jesuit another day to prepare to try to stay alive in the double-elimination tournament after losing for the first time on Friday.

Regis Jesuit went 1-1 on the opening day, hammering Dakota Ridge 18-5 and then losing a 4-3 heartbreaker to Highlands Ranch in seven innings, and can advance to the final four round on May 25 with a victory at 2 p.m. against the winner of Pine Creek and Ralston Valley, which both lost their openers.

Grandview, meanwhile, needs a pair of victories to stay alive after falling to Highlands Ranch and ace Ryan Burr 5-3 in its opener. The Wolves need to win a 10 a.m. contest against Dakota Ridge (17-4), then would have to beat Centennial League rival Cherry Creek at 12:30 p.m.
