AURORA | The connection between Regis Jesuit High School and the Colorado Rockies continued this season in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

The Rockies — who hired former Regis Jesuit coach Walt Weiss as manager prior to the 2013 season — selected two former Raiders among the 41 selections they made in the draft, which wrapped up Saturday after three days and 40 total rounds.

Weiss’ son, Brody, went to Colorado in the 22nd round of the draft with the 649th overall pick, 12 spots later than the highest player selected from an Aurora school, as former Grandview shortstop Alex Allbritton went 637th to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Brody Weiss, a shortstop who has signed with the University of California-Santa Barbara, was joined by former Regis Jesuit outfielder Cole Norton, who was taken No. 1,159th overall out of St. Mary’s, Calif.

Recent Regis Jesuit graduate Andrew Schmidt, a left-handed hitting outfielder who is the son of Rockies vice president of scouting Bill Schmidt, had his named called as well in the draft. The New York Yankees made Schmidt the No. 1,154th overall selection.

Allbritton — a 2009 Grandview graduate — just wrapped up a playing career at New Mexico in which played primarily at third base.
