AURORA | David Peterson’s summer of baseball will take him to San Diego and Chicago in the coming weeks.
The highly-touted Regis Jesuit High School left-handed pitcher is in California for the Perfect Game All-American Classic, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT Sunday at Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres.
Peterson — a 6-foot-6, 220-pound University of Oregon commitment who helped the Raiders to a 12-5 record in the fall — was chosen for the Perfect Game showcase during a July 17 selection show. He is the only Colorado player in the game, which features a mix of 51 players from across the country separated into East and West squads.
In a few weeks, Peterson heads to Chicago to take part in the Under Armour All-American Game on Aug. 24 at venerable Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Peterson was selected to the Under Armour game in January, following a path also taken by another Regis Jesuit prospect — outfielder Connor McKay — in 2010.
Two former Grandview High School stars also played in the Under Armour Game, as former ace pitcher Kevin Gausman — who made his Major League Baseball debut this season with the Baltimore Orioles — took part in 2009 and rising New York Yankees prospect Greg Bird played in 2010.
This season’s Under Armour game — scheduled for 12:30 p.m. MT on Aug. 24 — features 36 of the country’s top prep players divided into American and National League teams.
