AURORA | A number of key league matches took place for city boys soccer teams on Tuesday, as the standings in the Centennial, Continental and EMAC became a little clearer.
Smoky Hill and Grandview played to a 1-1 tie at Legacy Stadium, with Kevin Del Mazo putting the Buffaloes (10-1-3 overall, 4-0-2 in Centennial League) on the board first, only to see Evan Person of the Wolves (5-6-2, 2-2-1) knot the score in the second half.
The teams played two scoreless overtimes before settling for the tie. Smoky Hill goalkeeper Grayson Heath made eight saves, while Grandview counterpart Connor Gavigan had seven.

Aurora Central 2, Hinkley 1 (final): At Aurora Public Schools Stadium, the Trojans edged the rival Thunderbirds to tie them for 4th in the EMAC standings. Aurora Central improved to 8-3 overall and 5-3 in the league, match the league mark of Hinkley (5-8-1), which got its lone goal from Juan Trevizo.
Gateway 0, Rangeview 0 (final, 2 OT): In the nightcap of a doubleheader at APS Stadium, the Olys (6-3-4, 4-2-2 in EMAC) and Raiders (7-2-3, 4-1-1) played to a scoreless draw that included a number of yellow cards and physical play. Gateway goalkeeper Alan Garcia (6 saves) and Rangeview’s Edward Zuniga kept the ball out of the net.
Regis Jesuit 1, Ponderosa 0 (final): The Raiders (7-5-1, 6-3) edged the Mustangs to continue their rise in the Continental League. Regis Jesuit, which scored the lone goal of the game in the first half, tied Ponderosa for second in the league standings, two games behind Heritage.
Eaglecrest 3, Mullen 2 (final). The Raptors scored three goals in the first half and it stood up in a Centennial League win over the Mustangs. Austin Marques, Tarek Qadan and Symon Fabbricatore each scored for Eaglecrest (8-4-1, 1-3-1).
Cherry Creek 4, Cherokee Trail 1 (final): Three-goal 1st half lifts Bruins over Cougars (7-5-1, 1-5-0) in Centennial League tilt.
Arapahoe 7, Overland 1 (final): League-leading Warriors roll to Centennial League win over Trailblazers (2-11-0, 0-5-0).
VOLLEYBALL
Cherry Creek escaped with a five-set win over Grandview in the battle of Centennial League volleyball leaders.
On their home floor, the Bruins (14-1) bounced back from a loss to the Wolves in the opening game for a 11-25, 26-24, 25-20, 19-25, 18-16 victory to take the lone spot atop the league at 4-0.
Grandview played its third straight five-set match — having defeated Cherokee Trail and Arapahoe in the previous two — and dropped to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial League with its first loss since Sept. 15.
In other volleyball action:
Arapahoe 3, Cherokee Trail 2 (final): The Warriors outlasted the Cougars 25-23, 25-14, 18-25, 22-25, 15-11, dropping Cherokee Trail to 13-6 overall and 2-3 in the league.
Regis Jesuit 3, Heritage 2 (final): The Raiders and Eagles also needed five sets to decide their Continental League match, with Regis Jesuit prevailing 25-23, 14-25, 25-27, 25-15, 15-12 to snap a three-match losing streak. Jillian Desmond had 13 kills and Natalya King 10 for the Raiders.
Eaglecrest 3, Overland 0 (final): The Raptors improved to 11-3 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial League with a 25-9, 25-14, 25-9 sweep of the Trailblazers, who dropped to 3-13 and 0-5. Junior Taylor Loyd had 15 kills for Eaglecrest, while sophomore Jordyn Poulter dished out 32 assists.
Rangeview 3, Aurora Central 0 (final): The Raiders retained their share of first place in the EMAC with a 25-15, 25-11, 25-22 sweep of Trojans.
Fort Lupton 3, Vista PEAK 0 (final): The Bison fell 25-13, 25-13, 25-12 to the Blue Devils in Colorado 7 play.
FIELD HOCKEY
In the lone field hockey contest of the day, Smoky Hill and Cheyenne Mountain battled to a 0-0 tie.
The Buffaloes — a co-op team that includes also includes players from Cherokee Trail — lost to the Indians 3-1 three weeks earlier, but goalie Baylee Candelaire made 12 saves to keep the game scoreless.
