Eaglecrest senior-to-be Jamie Griffin dropped from 21st to 57th after the second round of the 2012 Optimist International Junior Golf Championships Friday.
Griffin opened with a first round 78 on Thursday at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., but playing a different course changed her fortunes in the girls 15-18 age group. She had seven bogeys and three double bogeys in her round of 14-over-par 86 and failed to record a birdie as she slid down several positions in a field of 122 qualifiers from around the world.
Griffin tees off at 8:15 a.m. ET Saturday in the third round and the tournament wraps up on Sunday.
Despite the eight-shot difference, Griffin still maintained her place as the top Colorado player in the field.
Thornton’s Sarah Hankins and Boulder’s Kelly Moran each had identical 82s in the first round and both shot 86 in the second round to share in a six-way tie for 69th.
Jordan Sunset of Boulder also carded an 86 and is in 78th, Boulder’s Megan McCambridge had the best score of the day with a 78 and sits in 94th, Loveland’s Kelsey Petersen slipped to 104th and Denver’s Alexandria Trask is 116th.
