AURORA |  Not much changed for city school’s at Tuesday’s meeting of the Colorado High School Activities Association’s Classification and League Organizing Committee.

Movement did happen for the Aurora Central football team, however, which had its appeal to move down from Class 5A to 4A for football only approved.

The Trojans’ most successful football season in the past decade came at the 4A level in 2007, when they went 7-3 under then coach Dave Hall, but fell just short of making the 16-team playoffs. That season, plus a 6-4 mark in 2006, showed enough success to force Aurora Central to move back to the 5A level in the 2008 season against its wishes.

The return to 5A started with a 0-9 season and was followed by 1-9 in 2009, 2-8 in 2010, 1-9 in 2010 — all under former coach Wade Scott — and 2-8 in each of the past two seasons under new coach Taylor Calvert.

Adams City, also a part of the Aurora League along with Aurora Central, also had its bid to play 4A in football approved.

Football conference realignment for the next two-year period will be decided later this month.

Other developments that could have affected Aurora schools didn’t, as Valor Christian’s petition to join the 5A Centennial League — which includes Cherokee Trail, Eaglecrest, Grandview, Overland and Smoky Hill — for everything except football was denied by the CLOC committee by a 7-3 vote with three abstentions.

Valor Christian was approved to move into the 5A Jeffco League.
