Boys Golf: Grandview rises to 3rd in second Centennial League meet

LITTLETON | With Devyn Solano continuing to play well and senior Randy Urso back in the fold, Grandview moved up to third place in the second Centennial League boys golf tournament.

The Wolves were fifth in the opening league tournament, but climbed two slots in the Aug. 16 meeting at Deer Creek Golf Course as Solano again posted the best score for an Aurora player in the field. The junior finished out of the top five individuals — which were dominated by team winner Cherry Creek and runner-up Arapahoe — but carded a 1-over-par 73 that helped Grandview edge Mullen by a stroke (306 to 307) for third.

Kyle Carr and Shane Pouilot added matching 77s for the Wolves, who also got a 79 from Urso in his return after missing the opening tournament while playing an AJGA event.

Cherry Creek’s Max Urman took medalist honors with a 69, one stroke better than Arapahoe’s Henry Schaefer and two better than Cherry Creek’s Jackson Burke and Mullen’s Trevor McKune.

Behind 79s from Joey Cleveland, Mitch Robben and Jackson Ross, Smoky Hill slipped a spot from its fourth-place finish in the Centennial League tournament at Meadow Hills with a score of 320. The Buffaloes were seven strokes in front of Cherokee Trail, which was paced by Ben Knapp’s 77. Eaglecrest came in seventh, topped by Justin Tyler’s 85.

Coming off a 71 at the Cherry Creek Invitational, senior Von Owen led Overland — which had only three players and a did not record a team score — with an 80.
