AURORA | Fran Belibi made exactly zero 3-pointers in 28 games during the 2017-18 season which she helped the Regis Jesuit girls basketball team to the cusp of a Class 5A state championship.
Belibi wasn’t able to get a slam dunk during Friday evening’s A-Town All-Star Girls Game — though she came close in front of an anticipatory crowd — but the Regis Jesuit junior star put on a surprising display from behind the 3-point arc to help Team East to a 60-52 victory over Team West.
Bolstered by three 3-pointers, Belibi scored a game-high 22 points and teamed with Grandview seniors Leilah Vigil and Jaiden Galloway — who got the better of her and the Raiders a week earlier in the 5A state championship game — to push the East to victory.
Vigil and Galloway, both slated to play in the Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports 5A All-State Game Sunday, added 11 points apiece and Regis Jesuit’s Avery Vansickle — the only freshman participant in the game — scored eight to help Team East.
Grandview junior Alisha Davis scored 18 points to lead Team West, which rallied from a large deficit to give itself a chance to win in the second half. Vista PEAK sophomore Kaya Evans matched Belibi’s total with three 3-pointers on her way to 13 points, while Vista PEAK’s Denali Hughes and Regis Jesuit’s Jasmine Gaines had six apiece.
