Season highlights: Coach Gary Childress’ Cherokee Trail team made significant strides from its single victory in the coronavirus-shortened 2021 season and upped that seven this year and could have had several more if not for seven single-digit defeats. Yslas played a solid role in Cherokee Trail’s improvement as he averaged 9.1 points (down a bit from his career-best average of 12.0 last season) and finished second on the team in rebounding as well at 4.6 per contest. The All-Centennial League second team selection had his best game against Mullen — a team that went on to pull off multiple upsets in the Class 5A state playoffs — with a double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds). Yslas earned selection to the A-Town All-Star Game for the first time.
