AURORA | Who’s the worst boss on Capitol Hill in Washington?

Well, it may differ depending on who you ask. But Legistorm, a research company focused on everything workforce in Congress, said in a recent post it titled “Worst Bosses”, that those bad bosses may coincide with which Congressional members have the highest turnover rate of staffers

This year, both Colorado Sens. Cory Gardner and Michael Bennet make the list. And when factoring in data from 2001 through 2016, Aurora Congressman Mike Coffman and Ken Buck in CD4, both Republicans, are among the worst for turnover — which Legistorm equates to bad boss status.

The figured the list through salary data and staff tracking, the site said. Additionally, calculations were made using annual salary-weighted turnover.

The site’s CEO told Politico that’s important, because turn overs of chief of staff has a bigger impact on the office than, say, a paid intern would have.

A staffer for Coffman, who’s office has a 42 percent turnover rate, defended the data to Politico, saying his boss has tall expectations.

“It’s no secret that Rep. Coffman is one of the hardest working members on the Hill. Mike has high standards — expects a lot,” said Coffman spokesman Daniel Bucheli told the news organization.

“He has one of the hardest working staffs in the Capitol and back home, and it shows from the results he produces for the district.”

Buck’s turnover rate is 44 percent. Bennet’s is 21 percent since 2001.
