So the Gideons are out on this pleasant spring day, stationed across the street from Falcon Creek Middle School, 6100 S Genoa St., in very southeast Aurora.
You know these people. Almost always peaceful, pleasant and smiling. These are the people who put Bibles and New Testaments in hotel dresser drawers all over the planet. For years, they’ve stood across the street from schools and prisons and all kinds of places, asking if you want a Bible. It’s absolutely legal, as long as they don’t go onto school grounds to hand out the books.
They’ve been doing it for a long time. And while the practice of handing out bibles to kids is mildly controversial these days, by and large, we all just look the other way in hopes of not having to say, “no, thanks.” While a couple of folks have contacted us here today to question whether it’s legal, few others care. Neither the cops nor the school district had much interest in the hand-outs. Been there. Done that. They’re just Bibles.
Just imagine if these smiling folks were handing out the Koran to seventh graders as they left the school. Or even copies of the Book of Mormon. Or what if it was the Anti-Defamation League handing out booklets setting the world straight about Jews. Or a gay rights organization handing out information about how homosexuality is not a psychological illness, but naturally occurring biological anomaly?

What exactly is “setting the world straight about “Jews”? Seriously? Don’t you mean Anti-Semite?
File this under, “who cares.” These rights have been long protected and most are not ignorant, which is why there were so few complaints.
