AURORA | The head coaching overhaul at Overland High School continues, as a new head baseball coach is next on the list of hires for athletic director Ron Garcia y Ortiz.
In the past two months, Garcia y Ortiz has hired new head coaches in football (Seth Replogle), boys basketball (Danny Fisher), boys soccer (Wilmer Barrera) and volleyball (Chance Dunston). Now he’s in search a new baseball coach to replace Don Parker, who led the Trailblazers to a 6-13 record in the recently completed season.
Parker, a Rangeview High School graduate who played baseball in the New York Mets organization, spent the past 14 seasons as head coach at Overland, which plays in the rugged Centennial League. Garcia y Ortiz said Parker stepped down to spend more time with his son, who will be at Grandview next year.
“Don’s done so much for our school and he’s as good a baseball man as you’ll find, so we’re going to miss him,” Garcia y Ortiz said. “I can’t fault him for wanting to spend more time with his family.”
Garcia y Ortiz said he’d already heard from some interested candidates, but the job is still open on the Cherry Creek website: www.cherrycreekschools.org/Pages/default.aspx. Visit Human Resources job postings, classified, coaching, head baseball coach. A teaching position may be available.
Open positions as assistant volleyball and boys soccer coaches can also be applied for on the same website.
