Ryan West hoped he’d found his home as an athletic director when he became the interim hire over the summer at Regis Jesuit High School (see story, here).
After six months, that seems to be the case, as the school announced his official hiring last week, saying he had been “unanimously selected following a competitive hiring process conducted at the end of last semester.”
“I’m super excited like I was at the beginning of the year,” West told the Sentinel. “When I started over the summer and got to know the culture here, I was hoping this would be a long-term position. This place is absolutely amazing. It has great tradition and it’s an honor to serve these families and hopefully continue to move the athletic program forward into the future.”
West is a former principal at Englewood High School and he is in his second year as president of the Colorado High School Activities Association Board of Directors.
As usual, it has been a memorable time for Regis Jesuit athletically through the completion of the fall season and a good portion of the winter.
The Raiders finished as the Class 5A state runner-up in boys tennis — plus had individual state champions in No. 1 singles player Alec Rodriguez-Fields along with the No. 4 doubles team of Spencer Buege and Aiden Prananta — made the state football playoffs and lost in the second round, had a boys soccer team that made it to the quarterfinals and a boys golf team that qualified for the state tournament.
Regis Jesuit’s girls volleyball team qualified for the 5A regional postseason and the field hockey team made it a round deep into the state playoffs as well.
“Having 30 different programs and 70 different teams, the volume is a lot,” West said. “It’s amazing how many teams qualified for the playoffs in the fall and how well they are doing in the winter so far.”
