The first day of the state prep track meet gave some former athletes from Aurora’s Prairie Middle School a chance to shine.

Junior Zack Golditch of Gateway High School and seniors Avery Roberts of Eaglecrest and Rangeview’s Rikki Gonzales all took high spots on the medal podium in the first day of competition at Jefferson County Stadium and represented their old middle school well.

Golditch got the top honors, winning the 5A state championship in the discus, but Roberts and Gonzales weren’t far behind, as they took third place in the 5A boys high jump and 5A girls 3,200-meter run, respectively.

While Roberts is finished at the state meet, Golditch still has the 5A boys shot put and Gonzales is qualified for the 5A girls 800 and 1,600 meter runs.
