GLENWOOD SPRINGS | The firefighting costs for two wildfires in northwest Colorado exceed $16 million, according to officials.
Two remote wildfires burning north and south of Rifle, which started a day apart in late July, are close to being contained.
The cost to date for the Cabin Lake Fire in southern Rio Blanco County near Buford sits at nearly $10.2 million as of Monday afternoon, White River National Forest public information officer Kate Jerman said.
That fire is still in under investigation.
Jerman say the Cache Creek Fire, burning east of Battlement Mesa, has cost slightly more than $6 million to fight so far.
That fire was started by a lightning strike on July 28.
The fires are not expected to be fully contained until October.
