LETTERS: Immigrants want change, not empty words

1811

Editor: The change in administration brings a sigh of relief, but there is still much to do to address the harms of Immigrations, Custom and Enforcement (ICE) and the Department of Homeland Security and to develop truly comprehensive, compassionate immigration reform.

Until the system is torn down and rebuilt, until the deportation dragnets of ICE are halted completely and every detention center and camp is closed and every child is reunited with their family, people will live in fear. Kids will be scared that their parents will disappear and they won’t get to say goodbye. We need to do all we can to ensure the rights and safety of people in our community. We need more than a few rules to change in how ICE conducts themselves. This agency has terrorized my community. It isn’t enough!
