AURORA | Following renewed discussion over the past month about how to combat youth violence, Aurora’s Youth Violence Prevention Program is hosting a series of activities for young people over the winter break.

In partnership with its youth advisory council, the program is launching a “recharge your batteries” campaign Dec. 20 through 31.

“We recognize that our young people want safe places to go and activities to do, especially with heightened concerns about their safety right now because of the recent violent events that have happened in our community,” Jessica Prosser, director of Aurora’s Housing and Community Services Department said in a statement. “While this is a short-term campaign, it speaks to the unified commitment across all city departments and among community partners to work towards long-term youth violence prevention solutions.”

Events include free visits to the Central and Morehead rec centers with food provided by Aurora Public Schools, visits to APD’s Five-O gaming trailer and several celebrations on New Year’s Eve. A full list is available at auroragov.org/empoweringyouth.
