DEAR EDITOR: Intimidating behavior is going on in State District 37 by the people collecting signatures to recall Representative Tom Sullivan. This past Saturday in Centennial, my neighbor encountered petitioners at the grocery store, and when she stepped in to talk to passersby about why they should decline to sign, the petitioners called her a “terrorist” and she was told that “if she didn’t have a gun, she could get shot.”
These men are gathering signatures to oust a duly elected lawmaker — for what? For fulfilling his campaign promises. They want a redo. They want to waste taxpayer money to do it. And they want to put Colorado in an endless election cycle. This isn’t what recalls are for.
Several members of the Colorado GOP have denounced the recall including Cole Wist, who lost to Sullivan in 2018.
And certainly, threatening residents with violence is reprehensible and must be investigated. Decline to sign the recall against Sullivan. If you want new representation, there’s an election for that next year, and it won’t cost taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.
