The first Colorado "Gateway to the Rockies" sign, which hung over East Colfax in Aurora long before there even was an I-70. Go fish, JeffCo.

QUID HAS HEARD that the local VA isn’t only taking lumps from critics saying it has mismanaged the Aurora VA hospital, it’s also taking vets identities. In a carefully constructed statement, the local VA chapter advised that it would be offering free credit monitoring services and reporting for local vets who may or may not have had their identities on a laptop that was misplaced by local officials. A couple hundred local vets were affected by the misplaced laptop, and hopefully they won’t be racking up charges on bunk credit cards at Best Buys in Chattahoochee, Chattanooga or anywhere else in Texas. (I know, that’s not funny.) Having their identities taken was a complete surprise to local vets considering the VA’s current penchant for just giving them the shaft. See what we did there? Take, not give? Yeah, we know, still not funny.

AND QUID HAS HEARD the circus has come to town! And by circus we mean Ferris wheel in a mall parking lot. The annual Wright Amusement Extravaganza has set down their tent stakes in the Town Center at Aurora and we’re excited for a carnie or two to guess our weights after that lunch we just ate. Of course, the grand festival wouldn’t be complete with out the big wheel, which is visible from far off Abilene. Getting to the carnival should be on the bucket list of any Auroran and riding the wheel all the way to the top. Looking down, you can really appreciate the dirt underneath you as crews work to build the light rail. Make sure to say hi to Quid, we’re the bearded lady next to the dunk tank, two stands down from the sword swallower.

AND QUID HAS HEARD JeffCo wants to rumble with Aurora folks, so we’re going to have to round up a posse. Seems that JeffCo residents, who are obviously unfamiliar with a map, are also completely oblivious to history. Seems they want to own the “Gateway to the Rockies” moniker that’s

been Aurora’s since Pike’s Peak was a pimple. Allow Quid to introduce Exhibit A in the argument of why that’s a bad idea: a map. Clearly Jefferson County is in the Rockies, so how can it be the gateway? You have to go through a gateway before you get there. Without necessary passage, human history would never have the stupid St. Louis hoop that’s apparently the “Gateway to the West,” nor would we have Kenny Loggins’ great “Highway to the Danger Zone.” We’d automatically be in the West or in the Danger Zone, and that doesn’t make any sense. Speaking of danger zones, JeffCo, you’re taking a ride perilously close.
