QUID HAS HEARD that Colorado Gov. and Nice Guy John Hickenlooper is spending most of his time on Craigslist, Andy Hudson’s Jobs List and posting flyers on every third streetlight up and down Colfax Avenue in search of a new sidekick, err— lieutenant governor. Seems that Joe Garcia is headed for much greener pastures (think double what the state shells out for playing second fiddle to the guv). Be that as it may, the Centennial State needs a new Ed McMahon to Hickenlooper’s Johnny. Quid has a few names in mind:
• Keeping in mind that adding “Lt. Gov.” before your name pretty much seals your political fate — John D. Vanderhoof was the last one to make the jump to the mansion, and that was 1973 after his boss quit and went to Washington D.C. — it would be a perfect way to bid “sayonara” to the man who’s said goodbye to the Republican Party twice: Tom “Bomb Mecca” Tancredo. Alas, anyone Hick appoints has to be confirmed by both houses of the Legislature — and to give as much credit as the statehouse is due, they’ve suffered through the better half of one term of Gordon Klingenschmitt and probably know better by now.
• Soon-to-be former Aurora City Councilwoman Debi Hunter Holen will soon need something to do, and we presume that “something” won’t be challenging her husband Bill Holen in a primary for Arapahoe County commissioner. Given how organized the ArapCo Democrats are, trying to find her a House or Senate race for 2016 will be like trying to find a two-bedroom rental in Aurora for less than $1,000 a month.
• Perennial candidate PK Kaiser has never found a race he wouldn’t run in — but so far hasn’t found one he can win. This one’s out of the hands of voters (at least directly). He’s a shoe-in.
• Arapahoe County District Attorney George Brauchler turned down a run for U.S. Senate in 2016, and it’s not too crazy to think he’ll eye the guv gig when there’s no incumbent in 2018. Hick could give the presumptive GOP nominee a little on-the-job training — or at least some spirited office talk about the death penalty.
AND QUID HAS HEARD that Aurora has a new nemesis in the never-ending battle to improve its image. Seems the once-gritty town of Minturn, which ol’ timers will remember as “meh,” was dubbed as the home of the best public bathroom in the country. The toidies at Eagle Town Park were crowned after a Cintas’ stellar stall contest. Clearly, Aurora missed the boat by not entering the very Taj MaCityHall chambers that boast one of the best royal flushes Quid has ever camped out in. Get on it.
AND THAT’S ALL THE NEWS THAT FITS.
