QUID HAS HEARD that Cherry Creek School District’s newest elementary school now has an even more nondescript name to go with its nondescript brick exterior. Students will no doubt flock, in droves, to the southeast Aurora school dubbed Mountain Vista Elementary; a name that is as unique as it is imaginative. Seriously, there is already a Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch. It begs the question: Is there a standard name generator for these schools that we don’t know about? As in, the first name is the nearest geographical feature you can find, and the second name is from a rotating cadre of “Peak,” “Vista,” “Horizon,” and “Academy.”
We have enough Prairie Peaks and Horizon Vista Mountain Academies already. Quid’s sure there’s a few dead presidents that Cherry Creek could wrestle up from the history books for a name. What about the district’s first MLK school? Or perhaps we could all go the path of least resistance here and just name the state’s first John Elway Elementary. Guaranteed parents would drive an hour out to Aurora just to send their kids there.
QUID HAS HEARD that fracking won’t be on the ballot this year and for good reason: Jared Polis isn’t the Democratic kingmaker he thinks he is, yet. If you haven’t read the news recently, Quid will sum up the political intrigue at play here.
Hickenlooper, on shaky ground as Gov. already, would do anything in his power to prevent a statewide ban on fracking. That would bring additional GOP money into a state that he could very easily lose. Polis, eager to be the liberal king of the West, can afford to flood his own money into a populist measure to ban fracking. When he did, Hick and Co. pleaded for Rep. Polis to back off. (Polis’s congressional seat was spoils for helping the state Dems win the Legislature, by the way.) Confused yet? All you need to know is that money always wins in the end.
AND THAT’S ALL THE NEWS THAT FITS!

and……. what isn’t money, always flows downhill.
