QUIDNUNC: An unhappy holiday for Dan Oates, but resolutions abound for 2016 electoral hopefuls

QUID HAS HEARD that you should never stop looking for the side with the greenest grass. Gone but not forgotten, former Aurora top cop Dan Oates has been spending his holiday dealing with the same headaches as many other chiefs of police across the country: Having officers on video gunning down folks who don’t appear to be presenting clear and present dangers to law enforcement officers. While Oates’ Miami Beach department has seen its fair share of hiccups since he took his talents there, an early December shooting caught on camera has proven to be problematic as the nation struggles to finish off its Christmas goodies and also struggle to figure out just what it takes to indict a cop who kills someone when a less-than-lethal option is available. Luckily for Oates, there’s been no shortage of similar incidents across the country to steal the limelight away. But in case things get too hot under the uniform’s collar, Quid’s heard there are a few jobs opening up in Chicago PD.

AND QUID HAS HEARD that even when it comes to the state’s neat and elite, there’s always room for improvement. Since so few people these days are willing to fess up to their faults, and seeing how yours truly has none (I’m a rare exception), your faithful hack will offer up a few new year resolutions for select members of the community:

• Carbondale Colorado School Board members Joyce Rankin should resolve to hire a proofreader for her re-election website. The former teacher probably wants to walk the walk about not lowering the bar for high school graduates. Maybe mark a calendar date to clean up her page.

•Similarly, CU Regent Steve Bosley should resolve to buy back his election website, bosleyourcuregent.com, which has been hijacked by a Japanese parking bully. While it might be little more than amusing most of the time, the company holding the URL is running ads for Japanese porn, in Japanese.

• Colorado Springs GOP State Rep. Gordon Klingenschmitt should resolve to give up his Dr. Chaps shtick this year, and possibly strive to just stop talking entirely. The king of Colorado Springs kookiness donned his alter-ego white collar recently on YouTube to say that voters will pick those candidates closest to and endorsed by God, like himself. “Unless the (voters) are evil, and then they will vote against the spirit of God…” Quid expects evil voters will clean the spirit of Dr. Chaps from the gold dome later this year.
