If you’re just flummoxed by all these protests over black people dying “justifiably” at the hands of white police, think about how different you might feel if the cops in the three most recent incidents were black, and the people shot or choked to death were white. Do you honestly think grand juries would have refused to indict in all three events?

Go further. What if Michael Brown had been in his car and a cop is standing in the street, not looking to be doing much of anything except blocking traffic. Brown rolls down the window and asks why he doesn’t get out of the street. The cop comes rushing up, angry. He starts to reach inside the car for a gun that Brown legally caries on his belt. Afraid he’s going to be killed right there, he shoots the cop in self defense. Indictment? You better believe it. What if in New York four black men see a cop taking money from a pimp, and the record the crime. The cop sees the men recording the illegal exchange, and he starts going postal, reaching for his gun. One black guy calls 9-1-1 for help, and the other three hold the enraged cop down, one using a choke hold. The white cop gasps for air, “I can’t breathe,” he manages to get out as three black men hold him down while the cop is reaching for his gun. He has a heart attack and dies before anyone can come to help. Indictment? Are you serious?

And what if a black cop pulls up to a middle school parking lot because neighbors say a white boy has some kind of gun. The boy reaches to hand it to the cop, the cop panics and shoots the boy dead. If this was in Denver, what do you think would happen? All kinds of court cases. And if this was in Selma or Charleston? There would be no indictment. There would be a lynching.

These protests aren’t about these particular deaths, they’re about how differently white people and black people are treated by lots of cops, all over the country. A response I keep hearing is that if you don’t illegally sell a cigarette for 75 cents, or don’t shoplift, or don’t give a cop lip, or carry a realistic toy gun outside, you have nothing to worry about. The logic there is, it’s OK for cops to kill people who shoplift, give them lip, carry toy guns or sell cigarettes on the sidewalk. Those, apparently, are crimes that Americans deserve to die for. At least black Americans.

A black attorney who was in the thick of the aftermath of the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles recently said that after interviewing more than 900 white cops in the area, she was repeatedly told by white police officers that were afraid of black men, and it bothered them all the time. And in interviewing community members, black youth and men said they feared white police.

Is there anyone surprised that a spate of grand juries clearing white cops of killing black people for any reason prompts protests and even riots? Not about race? Yeah, right.

Keep protesting. Stop rioting and becoming criminals along the way. But peacefully and legally protest. Nothing else has stopped the unfair and disparate treatment of blacks in this country, whether they’re on a playground or living in the White House. Protest.

    1. 179 shootings by cops in N.Y. that killed people
in 15 years. Only 3 cops indicted, one convicted and did no jail time. Over 70% were black.
You can talk about black on black shootings all you want. I’m talking about police officers shooting and killing citizens. You are comparing
      apples to oranges.

      1. great article Dave. Unfortunately, it will fall on deaf ears, as we certainly have a
problem with racial diversity in the U.S.
Thanks for your well thought out
        comments.

          1. The comments are hilarious. Unfortunately, people out of blind hatred refuse to look at the facts.

Sorry, but the Grand Juries that actually heard from the witnesses disagree with you.

  1. Hey Dave, what about the unarmed white kid, gunned down by a black officer in Oregon? (not a peep!) What about the mother and 6 month old shot, the child in the face, by a black assailant? (again, not a peep!) I could go on, but you’d just ignore the FACTS, and continue your race baiting like Sharpton and the rest. And disparate treatment of blacks IN THE WHITE HOUSE? The man was elected TWICE and he’s NOT BLACK, he is of MIXED RACE. Oh, and what about the records showing that more blacks are killed by other blacks? No, still not interested in the facts?

    1. I think you missed on this one Perry. The true victim here is obviously Kevin. Come on can’t you see the mental anguish this has caused him, I mean having to listen to some black mother whine about her dead black kid. Do you know how inconvenient this is for Kevin? Obviously not, then worst of all, YOU. You the liberal media are reporting these dead children, like they are human or something…

      1. It’s not that he’s commenting about a dead black child, it’s that he’s commenting about a dead black THUG to the exclusion of all else. True, there aren’t many unarmed white kids killed by black cops, but maybe that’s because they aren’t out robbing the neighborhood store, or attacking the cop when told to get out of the street! Open your eyes and look around you. Maybe you’ll learn something.

        1. No really I’m so sorry you’re such a victim, but I guess you are the sorry one. Why you get so angry because a black community a hundred miles away feels like they are not treated fairly. Get over yourself.

          1. It’s difficult to have a discussion with someone so ignorant of the facts and apparently biased. I’m not angry, I’m disgusted! THE END!

          2. If you are not angry, why are you yelling then, or are you too stupid to know what caps mean? You apparently are not black and seem to live in suburban Aurora so why do you think you have anything constructive to add to the conversation about the racial inequalities in our justice system? Get over you white victimization, since nothing was done to you. You are EXTREMELY biased. Garner was murdered by a cop commuting an act against police force regulations. But a bigot like you can put the blinders on because he is black and you seem to think they are a different breed < or whatever racist language goes on inside your head. There are inequalities in the way justice is administered in this country.

However we should all be upset in the way cops get away with assaults and murder on a regular basis with NO CRIMINAL trial. We shouldn't have a class of people that are above the law. You're just too quick to say that is acceptable because it's blacks being murdered. I see you got worked up that some thug in Oregon was shot while on a heavy hallucinogen. I cannot say if that cop should have been punished or not because there was NEVER A CRIMINAL TRIAL.

Take you bigoted blinders off, cops should face criminal trials. I admit Brown is a poor poster boy for police brutality, but at least we are talking about it. I disagree this is a race issue, its a white issue, a black issue, a republican issue, a democrat issue. This has an effect on everyone. Cops are not above the law. The grand jury is something that has turned into the court system doing what the DA wants with a veneer of due process. Take your racist blinders off and look around. You might learn something.

          3. If you could make an argument via the evidence. i.e some type of proof (the witnesses accounts vary widely) that it was murder and not self defense then people might take you seriously.

          4. The New York City Medical Examiner ruled Garner’s death a homicide and was caused in part by “compression of the neck” as well as complicating health factors.
So if he wasn’t put in a choke hold he wouldn’t have died, are those dots too difficult for you to connect?

          5. First off, you don’t know the difference between homicide and murder. Also, you were talking about Brown, than after I commented you switched to Garner. lolz.

          6. Wow! You are actually insane 18 days later and you start making stuff up. I have not said anything against the brown decision because you are stuck on that get over Brown and get a life nutjob!

          7. LOLZ. You can not even remember what you posted. Here it is again — quote:

“I admit Brown is a poor poster boy for police brutality, but at least we are talking about it.”

Then you resort to personal attacks because that’s your inherent character. Nice. lol.

          8. LOLZ? What are you 12 years old? Please re-read my post and understand what I said; “I have not said anything against the brown decision.” I really hate having to quote myself so let me say this another way that you might understand. I have not, even one single time, said the Brown decision was wrong. I do not think Darren Wilson belongs in jail after, confronting an obviously out of control man who just minutes prior committed strong arm robbery.
He is a poor example of police brutality because the cop had good ground to use deadly force, especially after knowing the full story of him robbing someone. With that said there is a real problem of increasing police shootings. At worst police will usually face is termination, I do not think the shooting of another human being should be investigated by the shooters friends and colleagues. It’s not a race issue, it’s an everyone issue.

  2. What IF,

Brown had not robbed the convenience store and then used the threat of physical violence to get away?
What if Brown had not been walking in the middle of the street?
What if Brown had moved to the sidewalk when asked?
What if Brown had not been high on MJ?
What if Brown had not slammed the door on the police officer?
What if Brown had not punched the police officer repeatedly in the head?
What if Brown had not tried to disarm the police officer (Brown’s DNA was on the gun)?
What if Brown had not twisted the gun until it was pointing at the police officer?
What if Brown had not turned around and started advancing, in likely another attempt to attack if not disarm, the police officer?

What if the news media, Including DAVE PERRY – the emotional, non-rational, cop hater, had waited for the evidence to come in before inciting a riot and destroying the business district of Ferguson?????

    1. Sorry, MrColorado, you’re preaching to deaf ears. It isn’t about being responsible for one’s own actions. It’s a “I’m special and not subject to the laws of regular folks!”

      1. Darren Wilson’s gun was never processed, so no fingerprints were found.
Also, Darren Wilson never made a written
or recorded statement on the day of the
        killing. People are repeatedly saying
Brown’s fingerprints were on Wilson’s gun.
        Wrong.

        1. Leroy, are you part of the investigative team or are you repeating more tripe from the media? Never heard a peep about Brown’s fingerprints on Wilson’s gun until just now, although I haven’t listened to all 8000 hours of talking heads. Here are the facts I do know, Brown robbed a store, Brown disregarded Wilson’s lawful order, Brown attacked Wilson, Wilson shot and killed Brown.

        2. Incorrect. The prosecutor released all documents from the grand jury including the laboratory results with Brown’s DNA on the gun. In 5 seconds you can bring up the info on google.

  3. Talk about stupid. Perry, could you do a little research for once instead of just spewing hate 24/7?

    Ref: Garner.

    1) A BLACK Police commissioner ordered his cops to crack down on the illegal sale of non-taxed cigarettes after receiving complaint(s) from legitimate businesses that Eric Garner and others had been doing it for 3 years running in the same spot.
    2) Garner had been warned and/or arrested several times this year for selling illegal cigs, but he kept doing it.
    3) Then instead of being a man and owning up to his crime, which is only a misdemeanor, he had to make it worse by resisting arrest.
    4) A BLACK female officer was the ranking on-scene cop when Garner resisted arrested and died.
    5) I agree the officer shouldn’t have used a choke-hold, but it’s abundantly clear from both the video and the coroners report that the reason Garner died was primarily due to his very poor health. Those particular police officers did not know how to handle such an extremely large person and made a poor choice. However, they did not intent to hurt Garner. On the contrary, from the video it is obvious they were just trying to get him on the ground to cuff him as quickly as possible. Garner was becoming increasing belligerent and due to his size poised an extreme danger.
    6) In summary, despite the irrational hate Dave Perry talks at every opportunity, this was clearly an issue of police training, not intentional malice.

    1. Choke-hold was media invention. Grand Jury saw several different videos of that, and the arm over the shoulders, with hand down on chest is typical take-down move. Note with size involved, it takes several to get a big person down. And video shows him on side, on sidewalk with arms and hands of police not near his head area. 2nd item. It took several of them to get him on gurney, and loaded into ambulance. All of that took time, and he died about hour later of heart attack in ambulance. Summary: Dave started his article with agenda, and twisted facts to make that work. As for 12 year old with pellet gun, I saw photo of that toy on NY paper, and parents (although suffering loss of son) will have to accept responsibility that he left for park with it in this nanny day of being afraid. There was a time when kids would have been playing cops and robbers with toy guns all over that park. But not in todays PC society, when mothers faint if guns are mentioned. And when you have problem of determining gender of individuals walking down the street. At 85, I am lucky I won’t have to put up with what comes next. Married 62 years, wife and I thank God every night we have reached this age, with all the changes of past 6 years.

  4. Wrong again Dave!! lolz.

    https://nypost.com/2014/12/08/eric-garners-widow-denies-race-was-chokehold-motive/

Eric Garner’s widow denies race was chokehold motive

    “I really don’t feel like it’s a black-and-white thing. I feel like it’s
just something that he continued to do and the police knew. You know,
    they knew.”

“He tried working with the Parks Department. But he had asthma. You
know? He had issues. You know? Heavy guy. And he was very lazy. You
know? He didn’t like to do anything,” she said.

  5. MSM is giving out bum information on cost of cigarettes in NY city. With all the 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 year old kids getting cigarettes and other forbidden stuff from 18-21 year olds, law has been changed in NY state. Have to be 21 to buy tobacco products, including e-cigarettes. That keeps all the younger folks from getting tobacco which is very addictive to that age. Also by putting state tax of $4.85 cents on each package, and city then adds $1.50 tobacco gets too expensive for the unemployed 21 year old too. Smoking has decreased from 18% to 13% according to article I read. —————Now comes individuals, standing outside stores, selling cigarettes for $0.75 (75 cents) each and getting into verbal hazzles with merchants. They have to pay $300 to $400 to sell tobacco for permits, and when they buy from wholesaler, they pay for tobacco, with all the taxes. They went to Police Chief, Town leadership, and complained about the smuggling, and problems caused them. Police when dispatched for such incidents, and arresting guy, he says I’m not going, and resists, they cannot just walk away. So they take him down, cuff him, and he has medical problems. Dies later in ambulance of heart attack. DUH!!!!!! Dave, tell the rest of the story when you want to give fairy tales. We don’t need more agitators, we need peace-makers.

  6. The black population in Fergeson have the power of the VOTE as the majority of Fergeson is black. If they don’t like white cops, then they should come forward and become cops themselves. They could get educated and organized to put black citizens on the ballot to run their city. These Black citizens would be elected because Blacks hold the majority. Why don’t more Blacks or minorities take the initiative and become policemen?
