You can only see how surreal the Oregon militiamen morass is by imagining that the armed squatters were black, or Latino, or — God forbid — Arab Muslims.
Exactly.
Can you just fathom what the response of the wackadoo right, led by Mein Trumpf himself, and even the federal government would be if a few dozen armed Mexican immigrants or naturalized Arab Muslims drove onto Rocky Mountain National Park or the Loveland Ski Resort and announced they were there to ensure that state and local folks were going to run the operation from here on out, and they planned on holding the area hostage for years until it actually happened.
Snort. You’d see a compound full of tear-gassed or dead brown people faster than you can say, “Terrorist Act of Treason.”
Who the hell do these Oregon insurgents think they’re kidding? Not only is this more insane than the similar stunt the same worrisome Cliven Bundy clan pulled in Nevada in 2014, it’s hugely more dangerous, given that they’re trying to recruit like-minded, tin-foil-helmet heroes to come and join the cause in undermining the U.S. government.
And why? Because these fools say the land was ill-got back in the late 1800s and infringes on the rights of a privileged few to have free and unfettered use of the land for their own personal gain. They call it “grazing rights” and “mining rights.”
Mining rights? The only mining done on the high Oregon desert is when someone digs a post hole to fix a fence. It’s a wildlife refuge, a place the government was forced to create because very un-endangered humans have virtually bankrupted the American environment and wildlife ecosystem across the continent.
A very similar but much more dangerous problem exists right here in Colorado, where like-minded malcontents want to push the federal government off of federal lands and forests so the state can take over to do a “better” job of managing the property. “Better” means better for oil companies, logging firms, a handful of ranchers and deep-pocket mining firms. Such a move would by no means be better for Colorado residents and the millions of annual visitors to the state who love and depend on high-quality federal lands for fishing, hunting, rafting, skiing, sightseeing, hiking, biking, camping, climbing, snowshoeing and myriad other reasons why most of the country is just itching to move here.
This isn’t about the federal government telling the band of Bundy clowns that they can’t graze their cattle on federal property. It’s about the caretaker telling crooks like him and others that they can’t graze the land into an Oklahoma Dust Bowl, and they can’t have it all for free. If you raise cattle in most parts of Colorado, you understand that you have to protect your own land from overgrazing and pay for feed when grazing doesn’t work out. Bundy and few ranchers like him believe that they shouldn’t have to share federal lands with anyone because they don’t want to.
For some odd reason, this mythological and freaky narrative speaks to the tea-party cultists, mostly because it’s just another reason to hate the guvamint, the revenooers and that damned black man in the White House.
I think it’s a multi-level mistake for the feds and the White House to just kind of look the other way and hope these conspiracy kooks get bored with all this and go home.
They have armed themselves, plotted and invaded a government installation and made it clear they’ll come out shooting if anyone tries to make them behave.
That’s absolutely preposterous. But in a world where the leading Republican presidential candidate rises in the polls after openly admitting to seeking fascism as U.S. policy and wants start with setting fire to the First Amendment, hell, how can crazy crap like this compete anymore?
The government’s official response is that they consider these hijackers “protesters” and their policy is to let protesters be and watch from afar.
Protesters? They have god-only-knows what kind of arsenal out there and have overtaken a national wildlife compound and all the buildings and facilities on the land. We’re not talking about a bunch of stinky hippies “occupying” a park in Denver or New York and smoking dope to while away the hours of doing not much else. These people are criminals — dangerous, armed and clearly psychologically unstable criminals. And by standing back and just clucking their tongues, the tacitly sanctioned stunt appeals to like-minded, dangerous, armed and clearly psychologically unstable criminals to pull a stunt like this someplace else.
It may be that folks in Oregon just figure, “there they go again” or “who gives a pile of deer droppings about that wasteland, anyway,” but the last thing we need here in Colorado is for some freak-cake to march into DeBeque or Gunnison and take over a few thousand acres because that’s a good time.
Fortunately, Colorado is a pretty savvy place filled with people who can see who’s really behind these Oregon goons and the corporate exploiters trying to undermine Colorado’s precious natural resources.
I guess we can’t carpet bomb their Oregon terrorist stronghold, but the feds have got to tell them to get the hell off our property, and if they don’t they’ll flush them out like we would any other hostage-less bank robber or extortionist that holes up somewhere that belongs to someone else.
Better yet, start the rumor that these men are actually Syrian refugees or Afghani Muslims, and the nationwide demands to send in the U.S. Army will take care of the problem before the weekend.

Dave, if you want an interesting read, look up Ruby Ridge. No carpet bombing, but the feds didn’t mess around in that 1992 incident.
they are a bunch of free loaders, not willing to pay taxes for grazing on federal lands. They need to get a job, and stop acting
like a bunch of fools. Bundy still owes a million bucks, and refuses to pay. Just angry white guys getting plenty of press
whining about how “unfair” life is.
Don’t talk about ‘fair’ to me here please. The ones totally engulfed in their plight, are the blacks and other minorities who believe they are victims. Real black leaders have said for decades, ‘welfare is the single most crime against the black race’. They are not victims, but dependents.
Who’s talking to you. Joe was talking to hardhead, not you genius.
Bundy and his pals are flirting with trouble. They keep it up and soon they’ll join their angry white racist freeloading brethren in a mutual whine courtesy of the federal government. Lock em up the sooner the better.
Why lock them up. Barry is pardoning many from prison and jails and putting them back on streets? Who would commit crimes so they could keep DOJ busy? Catch and Release. Good practice in fishing, but innocent people get killed and injured.
We agree. I’m a catch and release fly fisherman.
You are right however. This Bundy crowd is asking for serious trouble should they persist in their folly. They will be killed or seriously injured if they choose to shoot it out with the feds.
They are anything but innocent. They are trespassing and violating federal law and should and will be prosecuted.
You are a racist. They actually want the land returned to the states. The fed gov has zero constitutional authority to occupy that land.
Not so. Senior age Bundy tried to pay grazing fee to Nevada, State officials. But too many of them are in pocket to Harry Reid, whose family makes big bucks by protecting the public lands, by keeping public off them. Say they are protecting the desert tortoise, but planned to kill half of the 1,000 they had in Las Vegas, taken off desert that now has crop of expensive housing, streets, trees, grass, and gambling folks enjoying the night life in Vegas. And also by driving about 100 ranchers off the Virgin River, to add the water to Lake Mead, so it can be sold to California and Vegas folks for golf course greens, and night life. WHO NEEDS THE STINKING BEEF THE BUNDY AND HAMMOND RANCHERS RAISED FOR MARKET? Right. Otherwise Harry would never have become Millionaire on just Senator salary. right?
William Shatner had a show where he interviewed one of the girls present at Ruby Ridge. Great interview. The fed murdered the people at Ruby Ridge.
They have god-only-knows what kind of arsenal out there
I remember the Feds saying this right before slaughtering women and children at Waco, when they could have simply picked up Koresh in town and saved themselves a whole lot of bloodshed.
a national wildlife compound
It’s a shack out in the middle of nowhere, Dave. It’s not some massive facility like the Bushes or the Kennedys own. As silly as the armed occupiers are, for all the sputtering you do in this article, it might help to actually look at the real story behind the media drama, which is a lot more compelling than some Jethros holing up in a shack in the offseason. Like, the family at the heart of this, the Hammonds (who don’t even want the Bundys and their cohorts there) who got completely screwed by the Ninth Circuit and have to report back to jail because the DoJ decided that they didn’t want to honor the plea bargain they struck.
people out there have said they are willing to kill or be killed. They are terrorists.
Which Mohammads are you referring too?
You, genius.
people out there have said they are willing to kill or be killed. They are terrorists.
Like these guys?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wounded_Knee_incident
You, like Perry, also seem to have confused the Bundys with the Hammonds in your desire to display your urban provincialism. Although the Bundy kids are ostensibly protesting the Hammonds being put back in jail, the Hammonds don’t want anything to do with them or the people out at the BLM shack. Maybe you should actually read up on some of the background behind their sentencing and why the initial protest, which was 300 people merely marching and demonstrating, happened to begin with.
Portraying citizens fighting for their rights as terrorists and extremists is part of the fundamental work of the police state. That so many on the left should now do it so willingly shows how deep tribalism and fear of the other run.
Who’s doing the “sputtering” here. Sounds like this entire comment is one big “sputtering” crock from someone who knows not what they’re talking about. “Picked up Koresh in town”? Right sherlock.
Although the ATF preferred to arrest Koresh when he was outside Mount
Carmel, planners received inaccurate information that Koresh rarely left
it.[37] The Branch Davidian members were well known locally and had cordial relations with other locals.

I realize you couldn’t help your knee jerking again, but at least pretend to be informed about the things you’re commenting on.
Please! Who’s knee jerking who? Informed? You could use some help rocks.
“I know you are but what am I” is hardly a refutation of the cited source. Got something more substantive other than your typical kindergarten-level soundbites?
“Refutation of a cited source”? I do agree wiki is fun and very informative. If knee jerking helps you prove the righteousness of your cause it’s your problem.
David Koresh was asking for trouble. The Bundy crowd likewise.
So, the latter, then.
How intuitive of you! Yes the latter.
I agree with you Red Rocks. Sheriff there said he could have arrested Koresh at any time before the federals moved in, peaceably. My brother lived in Teague, Texas at that time, and he was very upset, as was that part of Texas. My granddaughter taught school in Mexia, and brother and she received hospitalization care and treatment in Austin. I visited in that part of country, and almost became a resident in 1986. Economy tanked, and friend of my brother, offered me lot and mobile home on nearby lake, with my only having to pay transfer fees. That fiery destruction and killing was unnecessary, but federals wanted to show muscle. Same in Ruby Ridge, and what a cookup mess that was. Government paid heap of money to Weaver family for killing the mother and child, and injuring so many. THAT TEAM IN WOODS THAT KILLED THE DOG HAD EXPLICIT ORDERS TO AVOID CONTACT WITH FAMILY. JUST OBSERVE AND MAP ATTACK PLAN. And it blew up in their face, due to Assistant Attorney General of the area.
Perhaps Dave, in his lust to watch a Quentin Tarantino style bloodbath, forgot that the very reason the Feds don’t go into these situations guns a-blazin’ anymore is due precisely to the lessons of Waco and Ruby Ridge.
It’s rural Oregon in the dead of winter; the occupiers have no food, no substantive support from the people they are ostensibly there to protest for, and aren’t driving the media conversation. Eventually they’ll get tired of it all, declare “victory” and leave, and no one will have actually gotten hurt.
We don’t have Bill Clinton and his ilk in White House, and Janet Reno is no longer there. After the trial of Weaver, and government paid him for killing his wife, and the daughters for killing their mother, the FBI and ATF came up with changes in operation where this type of action happens.
And the Fiasco at Bundy Ranch occurred with armed thugs, the “so-called jack- booted lawmen” with helicoptors, trucks, and drug store cowboys from Utah, rounding up cattle, separating the calves from their mothers, which resulted in loss of calves by dying, and stressed cattle, not to mention a lot of stressed people.
At that time, there was a meeting of Elected Officials and State Officers meeting in Salt Lake City, discussing Amendment 10 actions, and how to move to bring more western land under State Control, and away from the Federal Jackboots. I have relatives and friends who work rangeland , and as state officials, and they now have to go armed. We have a lot of pot farms and others in our forests, who are not law-abiding folks. Just as a 5 acre pot farm burned in Colorado mountains, near Air Force Academy, that was not known of, until they smelled the burning Pot, (which smells like curing alfalfa hay, or if you go down in the Valley around Lamar area, you can smell the Alfalfa curing or being worked into pellets. Same smell, as the Washington DC Police Lieutenant, showed us at NCO academy , on Bolling AFB. I was there TDY from Hawaii to attend, Senior NCO Academy, and our Academy Commander and that Officer, worked undercover in Washington, to arrest drug dealers. Used a water smoker, and let us smell the fumes, so we would recognize it in our workshops or areas. You don’t want to get too far away from other folks in any of our Rocky Mountains, or the California Mountains now, unless armed.
By the way, those folks in Oregon do have weapons with them, but are not terrorizing anyone with them. Self Defense, if some folks get stupid. And they are gaining national recognition. Westerners are tired of Jack-booted Federals treating the west as a colony, to rip off assets for the east.
There you go again, ryecatcher. Sheriff said he could have arrested Koresh whenever a warrant was issued, but we had Janet Reno at DOJ, and she wanted to show muscle. (As in WACO, and Utah with mother killed over a shotgun). Same as kidnapping the young Cuban boy and shipping him back to Cuba, after mother lost her life to get him out of there. And of course, he is now a fully brain washed Cuban, as was reported in papers. But others did not have it so good. In 1957-58, I had young man working for me, at ATIC, W-PAFB, Ohio, married to Cuban girl. They married, and he was in Air Force, so they moved to USA when he transferred. Her family was jailed when Castro brothers came in, and all were killed in prison. I doubt they are happy about Obama making nice with Castros brothers now. I had to comfort that airman and his wife, which was difficult, and experience I never had to experience the rest of my career. Though I was at Goose Bay, Labrador in 1961-63, when Russians were trying to install missiles, and majority of our planes and military was at Homestead AFB, Florida.
I had young airmen with wives, working for me then, and we suffered together through that time, not knowing if any of us would see our wife, and children alive again. We fully expected the Russian Bear and Bison bombers , to fly over North Pole, to drop nuclear bombs on us, which our planes (F102A and TF102A) were built to intercept and shoot out of skys far above them, or out in front in lead-collision courses. We kept 2 in alert barns, and 2 back-ups, for a very tense 2-4 weeks, and we even got to walk guard patrols with carbines, and carrying walkie-talkie after working our regular shift. Lot of fun, after being in hangar on job for 12 to 20 hours, then walk a foot patrol. Try it sometime, in the dark, outside the Military Police ring, around the KC97 tanker buildings.
“There you go again”. Ronny Reagan. frank is at least original in his provincial attempts to make sense.
Russian bears and bombers. Sounds ominous.
There you go again. Russian Bear was TU95, like the one that flew along Aleutian Islands, Alaska, down our western coast on 4th of July this year. Built by Russians to carry Nucelar bombs, flying about 80,000 to 85,000 feet, and our F102A Delta Daggar was good up to about 59,000 feet. But in snap up course, lead collision, Interceptor could fire missiles to close the altitude gap and hit that bomber to take it out. —
I spent Thanksgiving weekend in late 1950s, packing copies of that plane into envelopes, classifying them TOP SECRET, to be couriered to Washington by Army Warrant Officer, to be dispersed through pouches to over 250 plus intelligence units. One photo, taken by a slave laborer, who escaped through Berlin Wall, and that exposed photo was first we learned of that plane. ATIC lab developed photo, copies, and aircraft analysis determined engines, how high, how fast, and predicted range. All of that may be above your pay grade, but was very sensitive at that time. And I was very interested this past year, to see inside that plane, and look out the pilots windows to see the 4 – double engines. Had 8 propellers, with one rotating one direction, and other in other direction.
You don’t have to take my word for any of this. Dates when I helped with shipping photos, is in achieved records. But you can see the plane on net, with simple search. Last Propeller bombers that are flown now. And the Bison was developed at same era, for same purpose.
Don’t know what you did in military. I know what I did, and am proud of my work. I would not have stayed, without the challenge for 26 years. And my family supported me with that.
That’s nice. Good night.
.
ryecatcher is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s. You will have to forgive him.
Thank you. I met a lot of different folks in military, and came to respect almost all of those who stayed, through the hard times, and did their jobs. We had those who made it into and out of guard house very regularly, but everyday was fun or challenge. Many thrived but had a few losers. Such a range of talent, background, languages, and cultures. At my end of life, I look back with wonder of the naïve, farm boy I was, out of Ohio.
People who settled the west brought their guns because they found Grizzly bears, Indians, Mountain Lions, and other wild critters who would kill and injure them. Not to mention the Mormons who came from middle of country, to Salt Lake area to practice their religion. Had cattle ranches, and towns, and churchs, not to forget the Presbyterians who came and built churchs and schools among the Utah mountains. Many years before the BLM was even thought of.
Eventually the Civil War was fought to keep the union together, and settlers started moving west for gold, to get to California, or to western ocean, along the trails that Indians, Buffalo, trappers, had traveled. And with Eastern states settled with property owners, the government found they could keep much of the west, as public lands, which they could strip assets, move the money to government coffers, and spend it much more efficiently , than land owners or property owners would.
Remember statement few days ago about all the ranchers who used to live in that Oregon area. Now the Hammonds are forced out, with pressure to sell to government to add to the National Park.
Does that sound similar to the Virgin River in Nevada, where the Bundy’s was last rancher owning property there. So bunch of drug store cowboys hired from Utah, with helicopters, trucks, and guns start hazing Bundy cattle into compound, to sell off, because government wanted to protect the desert tortoise????? Yeah, with all the expansion around Las Vegas, Government had over 1,000 desert tortoises in area in Las Vegas, and was killing off half of them, because they did not have place for them, and funds to feed them. Some protection.
And it just happened that Harry Reid’s children were involved with Chinese business folks who wanted to put in solar farm up in that area, for a lot of money. But then the green energy business went bust, with all the foreclosures and bankruptcies, and raiding of our National Treasury. Anyone remember all of that?????
Bundy’s do not sound crazy like Dave Perry thinks, but they do believe in 10th amendment, and believe the assets in Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Colorado, should be used by citizens of those states, and be managed by those states. And Dave has evidently never lived next to a National Park. That one in Oregon is not well known. I never heard of it before, and by looking at the information available, it does not seem to attract many visitors either. Most National Parks like Colorado have all kinds of tourists attractions outside the park, and restaurants, stores, motels, hotels, and night life. Go into the park to see the animals, them come to town for the night, and watch the human animals.
And before ryecatcher makes a fool of himself on this posting, I traveled in 44 of our 50 states, staying in hotels, motels, my travel trailers, my motor home, my 3/4 camping van, and I know of state parks, county parks, with the state parks around dams, and other facilities. Have stayed at all kinds, in the forest, and in meadows in Utah, Nevada, and all over the west. I lived life with my family, and we were the richer for it. At least we know what we talk about, having seen it, visited with folks we know who lived nearby.
And I fear that Dave Perry is another ryecatcher, who had a spotty youth which he wrote about. Probably those town, nighttime animals, I referred to. We still have that type, which keep the police busy at night. And I even saw some of those in court, when I appeared as witness in some cases, or sat on jury here in Aurora Municipal Court. While in military, I never received a summons to appear for court duty, since military service required different focus of my time, efforts, and knowledge. Something I don’t think Dave has experienced.
My! A real live universal man. A reality these days. In frank’s case lets hope it stays that way.
I think the real cause of their discontent is their bad coffee. If they used a burr grinder instead of a blade grinder, they might not have committed these acts.
Do people who read the dribble you put on paper actually believe anything you write? You nearly immediately call names to anyone who isn’t a muslim loving black, or member of the Socialist or Democrat party, always. Why in the world would Mexicans, blacks or muslims do something that was against the liberal government? Hell, they want all the free stuff, including protections from the ACLU and other government agencies. Spend time? Do something for free? Do it to uphold justice for all? Nah, too easy to put out your hand for the manna.
The leader of the terrorists received a $537,000 loan from a government agency. Guess he didn’t mind putting his hand out for
that.
https://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/the-u-s-govt-spent-43-million-on-a-gas-station-that-s-1740025370
US government spends $43 MILLION on a gas station in the Middle East. Still want to quibble over dollars?
I’m not quibbling over dollars. Just making the point, replying to gofastgo’s comment about “they want all
the free stuff.” Wondering who he is commenting about? This situation has nothing to do with democrats,
socialists or muslim loving people.
These people have had their 15 minutes of fame, and have now stated they will leave if anyone in the
community asks them to do so.
Guess they’re out of snacks.
It’s just a protest, don’t get your panties in a bunch.
“… loan from a government agency.”
Except that’s not how an SBA loan guarantee works.
Listen to the goo man. Talking his racist smack. It’s not hard to figure where gooey puts his hands.
The “caretaker” is illegally taking care of vast amounts of land. The fed gov has no constitutional authority for the BLM, national forests, national parks, etc. The fed gov can manage/own land in very limited circumstances.
Mein Trumpf himself” So are you accusing Trump of being a socialist? LOL!
