Who wants Colorado to be more like New Jersey? I didn’t think so.

Not that there aren’t some wonderful people and places up there, none of which immediately comes to mind. There’s  probably some of the prettiest, most bucolic farmland in the country up there among Atlantic City, Trenton and Camden. But the state doesn’t rise to the top of places most people out here want to visit, emulate or move to. In fact, if you watered our very own Commerce City long enough, it would probably grow to become New Jersey. Sorry, you can send your hate-mail using the form below.

But you know it’s true. So why would Bob Beauprez bring out New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris “Yeah-Watch-Me” Christie a second time to shore up the GOP bid for Colorado governor?

crispie

Like his home state, I’m sure Christie is very nice. He just happens to have a growing reputation for being a typical, pushy, loud, New Jersey bully, and probably a liar and a cheat. In case everyone’s forgotten, and this seems to be a country absolutely plagued with political amnesia, Christie is still under state and federal investigation for his part in an outlandish New Jersey political revenge scheme. He has, in typical Christie style, cleared himself of any wrongdoing. His administration got shellacked after high-level staffers contrived a massive traffic jam just to spite a Democratic mayor Christie was at political odds with. Christie, who proudly controls everything and everyone around him, said the staff responsible for New Jersey’s Bridge-gate, however, was out of his control during that activity.

This is the same Christie who said New Jersey had a better quality of life than Colorado. He points to Colorado’s libertarian  experiment to end marijuana prohibition as a reason why East Coast benevolent dictatorships are preferred government. This is a guy who just couldn’t say enough good about Mitt Romney, or enough bad about Barrack Obama — until he needed billions in bailout to help people who build their homes right on the water, rebuild their homes right on the water after a hurricane destroyed them.

New Jersey spends more on education than just about any other state, and has relatively little to show for it. A recent Montana State University analysis ranked New Jersey as No. 30, far behind Colorado, in student test scores and achievement. Of course the National Legislative Exchange Council ranked New Jersey as No. 3 in public education. Colorado was ranked No. 4.

Health? You live here. You know how Colorado cities, including Aurora, Denver and Boulder, regularly make the list of the healthiest places in the country. While New Jersey was recently lauded for improving its toxic air pollution trouble and getting more people than ever to start taking blood pressure and cholesterol meds, neither Christie nor his state elicit a picture of health.

An NBC analysis this summer ranks Colorado as the 8th best place for business and industry, based on regulations, economy, workforce and a long list of criteria. New Jersey? No. 30.

I won’t belabor the point. But to use a Christie-style summary: New Jersey sucks. Colorado rocks. Why would anyone outside of Mississippi or Missouri listen to this guy?

Sure, he has great appeal to the way-right because he’s crude and mean in the face of every liberal cause and crusader. But the one thing Beauprez does not have to worry about is getting tea partiers and loony Colorado secessionists to vote against Gov. John Hickenlooper. It’s the independent, mostly apathetic and fully disgusted voter up for play right now. And for some reason, Beauprez is convinced that Gov. “Yeah? Keep Walking” Christie is the guy to pull undecided votes to his side. Does he not get that Christie and most things New Jersey are why so many people from there move here? Maybe Christie could hawk the state’s highlights a little more. New Jersey brought us salt water taffy, Miss America and proximity to Long Island and Philly.

Now if Beauprez wants to bring in people who understand we pretty much rock and are working to make it even better, well, that’s just fine. We’re happy to tell Gov. Bobby Jindal that creationism is not science, and tell Gov. Rick Perry that if he did a better job we wouldn’t have so many Texas refugees applying here for asylum and better jobs.
No, Gov. Christie, thanks all the same, but if you’re saying Beauprez should or would bring what you’ve got here, we’ll just keep Colorado like it is. You don’t have to come back. Really.

  1. Dave Perry, the world is a busy place but I had to stop for an instant and respond to your item re Chrisie.

Having observed politics for 60 years I view this man to be the personification of filth and degeneracy. As one example, his insulting remarks re Colorado are simply another indication of his crass stupidity. Even I, a citizen of the deep south, greatly respect and admire the wonders Colorado offers. From hippie days to this hour, I have associated Colorado with good friends, awe-inspiring beauty, and spiritual
    freedom.

Your article is well written, accurate and timely. Good work.

    1. Message from another good Democrat. If you form opinions based on what you see and hear on television or MSM (print) you really don’t know the people, what they really think, or perform. Too many on net these days with biased axes to grind. Reason most of us do not pay attention to the paid entertainers on cable television, or newspapers, since they only report what the editor wants. Not like earlier days, when actual news was printed or shown.

  2. We loved “The Sopranos”! Let’s bring Christie and his Mafia brothers to Colorado. But you do have to admit, Bruce Springsten, Frankie Valli and Thomas Edison are some of New Jersey’s better characters. New Jersey is not a bad place, it’s just the mixing of politics and organized crime that we don’t want in Colorado. Mixing Beauprez and Christie is like mixing grease and slime.

    1. Or mixing Hickenlooper and Bloomberg. Whomever you vote for, I’m tired of seeing out of state politicians here in Colorado.

  3. Dave, You do not describe the New Jersey I saw while attending SATCOMA training course in 1971. Some of the very best fish dishes available everywhere, and much more farmland, flower gardens, and places to visit than I expected. That was at Eatontown, N.J. but I did go north and south along the coast, talking to residents, and found very friendly folks. In the cities, where folks crowded each other, there was folks like you write, but not out in the country. Property taxes were unreasonable, for same reasons we see ours going up. Liberals in city, demanding government do for them, what they should do for themselves. You complain about imports to Colorado, but I see more from California, Illinois, Missouri with same liberal bent you exhibit. My living cost in Colorado have become excessively higher in past 20years, coinciding with Rocky Mountain News failure, DP becoming a Democrat Rag, and you inheriting Editor’s job, when true editors retired or left. I told you then, you might become a reporter someday, if you stayed with it. Afraid I withdraw that now. But even you and Sentinel will fade away with the new electronics future. Thank God, and something good about this administration.

  4. I have re-read the article for 4th time, and I still have problems associating what you say, with what I see. I see Denver Metro area being sanctuary city of the illegal aliens smuggled across border through Tucson and Phoenix, north to Denver, then spreading across USA east and west. Not only people, but drugs by the tons (as shown on news when DEA, Sheriffs, and Police arrest ring leaders and collect shipments. I see people coming here to smoke pot, and just 2 days ago, my granddaughter and husband who live in California, had taken a load to Denison, Texas. Had to rest for time, and left Denison, driving north to I-70, and we met in Aurora for lunch at truck stop (Denny’s). I asked how he was going west from here, and he stated , “will stay out of Wyoming”. “The stop all trucks for inspection since Pot legal in Colorado”. They don’t use, but did not want to put up with time lost during inspection. They planned to stay in Salt Lake Tuesday night, then go onto to California where he has more loads scheduled. So we are now known for pot, gambling, smuggling which brings more folks here. That is 180 out from my view and experience of mountains, open roads, and stuff to see. And our taxes, cost of living, and other expenses are going up, as more jobs go elsewhere. And the actual figures of jobs lost, jobs gained, adult reaching worker ages and not finding jobs, is actual. Percentages are cooking the books to make figures say what you want them to. State the actual numbers, and they don’t look so good.

  5. Bob Beauprez is a fraud. He can’t do nothing with out some one doing it for him. Why do we need outsiders coming to Colorado to tell Coloradoans; how to think, how to talk, how to educate, how to vote, how to live like everyone else but the way Colorado lives
Now is the time to change the vote you’re on.

These are dangerous times, and you can’t keep voting the same way you’ve been voting for the last 30 years.

Colorado is becoming a mecca of homegrown terrorists. ISIS is recruiting young children to join their cause.

Bad elements have already set their sites on Denver. Period!!!

If Coloradans, don;t wake up, and step away from the flowers, on election day. The gambits of deception will have one again.

Here Mr. Both ways Bob Beauprez, and the stronger colorado plan.
