OK. You tell me. What is it about the air, the water, the experimental mind-control waves leaking out of Cheyenne Mountain that produces such a vibrant crop of political whack-jobs in the Colorado Springs area?
You know it’s not just me. For years, you’ve seen and heard these odd tubers rise into the light and clamor for attention.
This, dear reader, is the part of the state that produced the one, the only, the unlovable tax-protesting, reporter-kicking, government-despising star of the El Paso Republican Party, Mr. Douglas Bruce. For those of you who don’t know Mr. Bruce by his reputation, you know him as the guy who created the most unworkable tax-laws in the world, which Colorado voters swallowed hook, line and sinker about 20 years ago.
Just when you thought weird and mean couldn’t get any louder, Colorado Springs sends a message straight from God to the state House this session. Enter state Rep. Gordon Klingenschmitt. This self-appointed man of the cloth and man upstairs — he goes by Dr. Chapps as a Bible-thumping, brimstone-roasting scolder of humanity on YouTube — in just a few days managed to incense the world by saying that God was behind the recent horrific attack on a pregnant woman in Longmont, cursing humans for their sins.
“Part of that curse for our rebellion against God as a nation is that our pregnant women are ripped open,” according to a 9News story.
Oy vey, dude. Get a grip. Get a life. Somebody get that man a 72-hour hold.
Not happy yet, today down at the Capitol during a hearing for a bill that would let transgender residents change their birth certificates to reflect what sex they are, despite what sex they were born, Klingenshmitt just could not hide his crazy hate for such a thing.
First he wanted to know whether they could change their birth sex and their birth date. Finally, he just said, “It’s one thing to ask someone to pretend, It’s another thing to ask the government to agree with that pretense.”
Such a sensitive soul. Such a leader. Of course he’s much, much more than just two days worth of hate. This is the guy who tried his damnedest to allow Colorado businesses to discriminate against gays and lesbians if the Good Book told them to. The bill failed miserably, but a measure just about like it passed today in Indiana. Immediately, the rest of the world started calling for Indiana boycotts. Pretty scary for them, if anyone did any real business with Indiana, I suppose.
Klingenshmitt never met a gay issue he didn’t hate. But the hate doesn’t stop there. He’s compared Planned Parenthood to ISIS. Yes, really. He said the Supreme Court will make good on its conservative leaning and the gays will all go to fiery hell. Yup. And Obamacare? Don’t get him started. He said that causes cancer. Most of that came out BEFORE Colorado Springs voters elected Dr. Chapps to heal liberal sickness under the gold dome. Do they not have TV down there?
These two are just a couple in a long list of questionable politicians sprouting up in the shadow of the Garden of Gods.
There’s current Congressman Doug Lamborn, who started his Congressional career so unethically that former Congressman Joel Hefley publicly said how disgusted he was. Since then, Lamborn has made a name for himself calling President Barack Obama a ‘tar baby.’ His most recent claim to fame is angering a world of military officials and contractors by publicly bragging that he’s urging active-duty U.S. generals to resign right away to undermine the Obama administration. What a patriot.
Just as patriotic is my personal favorite, Sheriff Terry “Happy Pants” Maketa. The guy who ran his own personal law enforcement agency to accommodate his pals and sexual liaisons, and had the selfies to prove it. He just never had the nerve to step aside after he got caught.
Past and current Colorado Springs politicians frequently move in and out of the sphere of Focus on The Family, the far-right conservative world that just wants to focus on your family. They say they don’t so much hate gays, as they just wanted to send them to straighten-up brainwashing therapy, soon to be illegal in this state despite Colorado Springs critics of the measure.
I don’t even recognize the Colorado Springs that gave this state attorney John Love, who was the embodiment of moderation as governor. It was he who signed a bill that made Colorado the first state in the nation to legalize abortion in the 1960s.
And now, the Springs sends us Klingenshmitt. No, thanks. Send him back.

No words to describe how disturbing this is.. .. Why the heck are Coloradoan’s allowing this absolutely delusional nutjob with stated and open twisted fantasies, represent them in higher office for one second longer? Wow….
Editorial and posting before me, are both out of line. Everyone in USA has 1st amendment rights to state their opinion. You can (and obviously) disagree, but others have different opinions, and right to express them. Walk away or close your ears. Neither one of you are involved, except through gossip. And your comments do not help the victim or father who lost their baby, to a criminal act. Assualt on mother is crime, whether the baby was a person or not, under the law. Let the courts do their job. We don’t need a bunch of agitators with agendas causing more division, anger, and frustration. With legal drugs, alcohol, and all the prescribed pain relievers on market, society is much more dangerous than past, proving we need to be able to defend ourselves from the rabble rousers as much as the criminals.
Frank, you’ve certainly exercised your first amendment rights in this string of comments, even if they are all over the lot.
I am retired. Senior. with health problems, and well past age of working. And I see you all over the net too, or someone else is sharing your user name. I earned my time, and am disgusted, with those who build their egos, by criticizing others. Perhaps the ankle biters should really look at themselves. If we were discussing these subjects on street corner, around the water fountain, or the coffee server, would you., or they be so forward with names used, or statements made. Don’t remember so much name calling or insulting in face to face situations. Have you?
Bye Frank. Enjoy your retirement.
I won’t provide additional comment, but hope you saw what members of Klingenschmitt’s own party have done in response to his remarks. He’s being stripped of committee posts as a disciplinary action. People in his district have inquired about a recall, and Klingenschmitt himself has taken himself off the air of his ‘television preaching ministry’ for six weeks.
https://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_27816504/klingenschmitt-loses-committee-post-recall-effort-weighed
You don’t need to reply further to me. but I will continue to make my voice heard, no matter how many for the left try to force me off. What party is doing to him is more dangerous discrimination than that practiced by the 2% of bi-sexual, the agnostics, the leftist-progressives- and trolls. While other write of too much money in political PACs, that will be entire funding in short order. Unions have funded political candidates to levels much above funding for their members work, benefits, or employment. Just as I do not send any more funds to major parties, or those out of Colorado, other than veteran organization support, hospice, red cross, and USO. I do donate to Colorado legislators who I have worked with in past, but hand the check directly to them or their aides, at meetings. None will go through the rip-off con jobs, who fill my mail box with requests. I do not discriminate and never have. But I do that from moral, Christian, basis. Not based on my pay check, pensions, or financial accounts. Married 62 years, I have never lusted for any other women, and certainly not for a male. but I am disgusted, angered, and frustrated of what I see of the “hands up, don’t shoot” crowd. “The I can’t breathe” crowd. And I don’t go lay down in roads, highways, or freeways like a petulant child. That is dangerous, and puts others lives in danger at same time. IS THAT ALL CLEAR? The Freedom of Religion has been inherent in our constitution since its inception, and practiced until last 20 years. Now we are threatened by people who do not know biology, healthy habits, morality, patriotism, or value of education This rant will fall flat among those who tweet, or cannot read beyond 140 digits.
Have a great day, Frank
Thank you.
Sentinel and Denver Post both follow same line on this. Having attended committee meetings at State Capitol in earlier years, and reading Denver Post – Sentinel, who among the Republicans is speaking for the Republican party? We are the party with anti-abortion in plank, and recent years tried to pass conception at fertilization (failed), yet we still do not protect the fetus in the womb from attack of criminals. Attacker in case was a deluded woman (criminal act) and should be prosecuted for assault. But why are elected republicans attacking another republican (minister) who referred to Bible and actual references. Are they upset of his mentioning the bible? Did they donate $1,000 to the victim’s family as his church did? Just where do they stand? And who do they represent? I doubt that God commanded them to attack him, but I don’t know. I talk to God, but he/she/power does not talk to me, though I am hard of hearing. When I vote my ballot (used to be split until 2006) I do not vote for someone to go to meetings and attack others of same parties, or even members of other parties. I vote for passage of legislation that will protect my family, my quality of life, and especially improve society. This constant rancor, and personalization of each other, only divides society into classes, and sub-classes. RESULT: 2/3rds of eligible voters did not register, or vote in 2009, 2012, 2014, and 2016 may prove completely disastrous if another president like present one follows, with more liberal-progressive destruction of morality in USA. Shame on all of you that think the and report in DP help anyone, especially with the back-biting.
I do wonder what happened to this Klingenschmidt that made him so hateful. Proud follower of Americhristianity, but so unlike Jesus.
I haven’t spent a dollar in CoSprings for years – partly because of embarassment, and partly because, as an atheist, I don’t think I’d be welcome.
Did you read his entire statement, or did you take what Denver Post and Sentinel said? He was Navy Chaplain, is active minister in church, and still believes in his religion and the Bible. Now what in that do you find hateful? Please explain since world I knew changed in last 6 years, and I also read of how hateful it was for Ted Cruz to go to Liberty University, to announce for Presidency. Now when you consider, that is 37,000 acres of land in Virginia with all the buildings, financed by Jerry Falwell, Christian, it did not surprise me a bit, and he spoke to people who wanted to hear him.
“This is the curse of God upon America for our sin of not protecting innocent children in the womb,” Klingenschmitt said, attributing the attack in Longmont to legal policy on unborn children. “Part of that curse for our rebellion against God as a nation is that our pregnant women are ripped open.” – Frank Do you Support this?
Did you read my entire posts – all of them. No I do not support deluded women cutting other women to steal their babies. But by same token, what are the legislators doing at the capitol wasting time on taking away guns, restricting ammo, and not doing anything about writing legislation to punish for the crime both of assault, and on killing a fetus that was viable if left where nature required it to be, to develop to where it could live outside the womb after birth. They are not gaining anything by attacking peer legislators, adding to division, anger, frustration, and point where neighbors are no longer neighbors. Live in adjoining houses for years, and don’t know each other. NOW WHAT DO YOU SUPPORT? And why are you challenging me? Just for argument. That gets neither one of us anything. Last 20 years there has been no real laws passed, except to add on top of existing laws, and most are too liberal for half of our citizens to understand. They drop out of school, out of society, do not vote, and live on the dole, committing crimes against those who are working. SO now, where do you stand? And for what?
I do read your posts Frank. Always. I just don’t understand how you can defend these statements. You can answer a question I didn’t ask. No one supports the acts, well except ol’ Gordy, I asked do you support his statements?
“This is the curse of God upon America for our sin of not protecting innocent children in the womb,” Klingenschmitt said, attributing the attack in Longmont to legal policy on unborn children. “Part of that curse for our rebellion against God as a nation is that our pregnant women are ripped open.” – Frank Do you Support this?
I missed that question. I don’t have to defend his statements. That is first amendment right of all citizens. No one should deny him that, since that is his sincere belief. And his words are quoted from the bible, so you need to question who wrote those, since we know that God never wrote the bible, Jesus never wrote a bible. The disciples never wrote a bible. And there are so many different versions of the Christian bible, which one has the exact, right words, considering they have changed their meanings and form, through the centuries since the printing press was invented. Originally on goat skins, papyrus, and other surfaces, even being carved on rocks in case of the commandments that Moses brought down from the mountain. Why jump his case, my case, or anyone else. I do believe the Republican legislators are out of line, by being baited by the media reporters running from each, to stir up trouble. I can remember anger at 5th grade girls in school who did that? Gossip, and creating problems. But they sell papers, but not to me. I don’t trust anything I read in newspapers any more, since what is published is what the owner or publisher allows, through the editor. Gossip mongers. I do read on the net, but do not purchase.
That’s not the first amendment, that’s not how it works. The first amendment is to protect people from the government, you know “Congress shall make no law”. It was never meant to be a blanket protection from consequences of saying something stupid, tasteless, or just plain rotten. No one is denying his wish to express his views through his for profit church. People can say stupid things, and yes the first amendment protects them from being jailed or prosecuted by law enforcement. But no, it will not protect a politician from out lash when he says something offensive.
Now the real story is there. “for profit church”. Yeah, sic em. Liberals have been wanting to tax church and charity works my entire life, and this administration has really put the heat on with delaying 501 (c) type tax exemptions for conservatives, charitable , and the services they provide. They are in competition to the government who wants a big employee base, paid big salaries to dispense the goodies. You just exposed the real story. Feel better?
Ok Frank, whatever. Keep defending crazy.
I told you before. I don’t have to defend anything any more except my life, family, and interconnect with society. Certain parts of todays, which are not welcome in my home or property. I did my defending of Constitution and Country under my oath between 1950 and 1976, and have continued as volunteer where seniors and military veterans-retirees and families are effected. Each person is responsible for their own actions, and it is not left to me to correct them, or really criticize them. Just avoid those that persist in antagonizing me, or want to argue. I don’t have time or inclination to go there.
I leave that to those holier than others. So fit yourself wherever you feel comfortable. Change what you can, but know enough to stay out of it, if you cannot. And be smart enough to recognize the difference.
You are defending them. I hope your proud of yourself. You obviously are not smart enough to see how sick these statements are and deserve the out lash they got. This isn’t a question about first amendment rights, I can see there are not words to make you understand that.
And you are a hypocrite. How many sex offenders live in your neighborhood? How many released criminals live in your neighborhood? And how many do you know who are pedofiles, abortion doctors, or others of that type? If you are going to criticize a Christian, Minister, Bible for its text, then who are you defending? And I would bet you keep track of all those I have listed, don’t you. What do you defend? You never state, but you challenge others to do your research, and then twist their statements. I have told you I do not defend the minister – legislator. He is an adult, and can defend himself, or ignore you, as he pleases. But do keep in mind none of the two thirds who did not register, vote, in past elections are in any way getting mixed up with you and others of your ilk, who are over the net with challenges, tweeting, and educating you.
What he said is not in the bible. There wouldn’t be a problem if what he said, was what he was taught in the bible. He is speaking for god, not speaking gods true meaning which according to the bible is love not hate. Certain he can have a backwards view of the lord. But he will hear about it when he puts those backwards views on public forum.
Example:
if I were to say the 8 christians that died this morning was gods will. It was punishment to Christians allowing Klingenschmitt to speak for god. < insert insanity here. Its the same.
Both of you guys need to get a life.
And pray tell, who are you? And what is your interest in anyone’s life?
By the way for all who question others on statements. Be very careful, since you open yourself to being questioned in return. I have attended enough Babist revivals, Methodist revivals, Presbyterian churches, Church of the Brethren, Catholic, and non-denominational revivals over the years to have heard some very strong and pithy remarks. Minister had reasons, since we were all admitted sinners, and knew that Jesus came in form of man, to suffer for our sins. So where is the beef? Too many want to make noise, see name in paper, but don’t really think of what they are doing, or for what reason. Just saying.
I am not an admitted sinner. Sin does not exist.
I am like Mitt Romney: I like to laugh. Ha Ha Ha
Jokes’ on you
Frankie, you’re really not very focused. Have you had your meds today?
Yes. Saw both my providers this month, and I will live to antagonize you in future. Why don’t you add new items, or subjects to discussions, instead of tweeting 1 liners at me. If you think you will drive me off the net, or use of my computers, have a ball. And insulting me by calling me Frankie does not advance your cause or agenda. And my legislators, including prior Governor found me very focused, as did my superiors in military when I installed two satellite terminals, and close 2 detachments and shipped millions of assets back to supply system, as enlisted detachment commander or supervisor. Also when I served on two legislators advisory panels after retiring from military, as unaffiliated voter at the time. My life has been very focused for 85 years. How focused are you, and what have you done in life?
Oh, please don’t leave. You provide great entertainment for me and others. I don’t know about your background, I just know you from your statements, which are often illogical and disjointed. Congratulations on your military service and that a prior governor found you very focused.
Frank, re-read that post. You were being asked if you supported this nut-job’s statements. So do you? You seem to be about the only one in the state who defends him. https://www.coloradoindependent.com/152257/littwin-overripe-dr-chaps-implodes
So far ezaspie and you are only ones on this line who criticize. And I am not sure why you do? You don’t really say, other than calling him a nutjob or crazy. Other then ‘guest’ and I have never known anyone with that name, so not sure how valid his/her statement is. I do defend the bible, and quotations from the bible. And I certainly do not expect a Minister (past Navy chaplain) to give up their religious views, so they can legislate or influence society. We all should be some kind of influence on a positive nature, to our society. Don’t you agree?
No Frank I didn’t call him a nutjob, that was in your head. I said his statements were disgusting. This is what you support Frank.
“This is the curse of God upon America for our sin of not protecting innocent children in the womb,” Klingenschmitt said, attributing the attack in Longmont to legal policy on unborn children. “Part of that curse for our rebellion against God as a nation is that our pregnant women are ripped open.”
That name was in string of those who have challenged me. I have not called anyone that. I am not a doctor, and would not put forth such statements. And I find it equally disgusting to attend Aurora Veterans Salute about 4 years ago, when a retired minister, who had served in military as a Chaplain, gave the invocation and Apologized to military – retiree veterans attending with family, before giving the invocation, “because he was going to give thanks and ask for God’s blessing on our assembly” . Just as atheist are now in training, to become chaplains for military. I suppose that for the gays, lesbians, transgender folks, atheists, agnostics, or those who do not want to recognize any religion. Latest military update indicate their has been backlash among senior grade flag officers (who cannot have their names listed) since the non-support of parts of that are in conflict with DoD evolution at present. As I told a friend recently when she told me I did not know whether I would go to Heaven or Hell. My reply was “it makes no difference”, “I have friends in both places”. So if I go to Hell I will see you and others there who have challenged me. But I am tired of having my head pulled back, with all the crap coming out, and folks telling me the changes are ‘CIVIL RIGHTS’. If you keep jumping around on net, you will find me there until Go0 calls me home. So take that and please give it some thought. I don’t believe you have converted anyone to your thinking, but I do know I have had an influence in my life for family living. Wife and will celebrate 63 years of marriage this August.
And you are more of a hypocrite for taking side of woman who did the cutting and killed the baby. You have to be, for criticizing the minister. You can’t be on both sides.
I took the side of the victim here. Your the one that said the woman who did the cutting and killed the baby was just doing gods will. Exacting vengeance on that poor baby because god was mad at abortion laws. WTF is wrong with you.
You need to be confined. I said no such thing, and you know it. So crawl back into your hole, if you can still find it and the guys in white coats are not waiting for you.
Yes you did Frank, by siding with these very words you agree that is the truth. Read the statements of people you defend Frank, don’t just defend people because they are republicans or Christians. There are bad people everywhere Frank and right now you are aligning yourself with one.
This is what you defend:
“This is the curse of God upon America for our sin of not protecting innocent children in the womb,” Klingenschmitt said, attributing the attack in Longmont to legal policy on unborn children. “Part of that curse for our rebellion against God as a nation is that our pregnant women are ripped open.”
Nowhere did I defend him or his words. That is in your mind, and yours alone. I simply stated you are trampling on me by beating me over the head and shoulders for what you think. You would probably argue with me if I reminded you that Jesus pulled down the temple, over the loan changers, which is violence. How do you interpret the bible when you read it. Or do you?
Here is you defending him:
“He was Navy Chaplain, is active minister in church, and still believes in his religion and the Bible. Now what in that do you find hateful?”
And here is you claiming what he said came out of the bible:
If you are going to criticize a Christian, Minister, Bible for its text, then who are you defending?
The bible that I read to answer your question did not teach hate. God=love is what I was taught. I am glad this has changed since you were young.
You lie. I cannot help that or you. I defend his right, just as you have the right to say what you want. I will not defend you or anyone else for their statements. I do not have that right, and I will not take it. I may disagree, but I will not defend you. I am responsible for what I say. And you have never heard me speak here or anywhere else, or you would have so stated. So I repeat. You are a liar. That is for all who read this, you write and repeat lies. Now go crawl under a rock, and whimper.
This was never a constitutional issue. You are not defending his rights, since no one is try to stop him from using those rights. Just admit what he said was wrong. Or do you agree with his statements?
“This is the curse of God upon America for our sin of not protecting innocent children in the womb,” Klingenschmitt said, attributing the attack in Longmont to legal policy on unborn children. “Part of that curse for our rebellion against God as a nation is that our pregnant women are ripped open.”
You have violated my rights under Constitution and Bill of Rights. You do not have authority over me, what I think, what I say. At this time you are no different than a Shria Ayatollah and if you did this in a personal conversation at the coffee dispenser or water fountain, you would rue the day, unless you are one big son of a gun. Now go back under your rock and leave me alone. I will use my computers and the net, since I paid for the use. And I demand the right for you to leave me alone. Don’t even note that you see my user name, no matter where it shows up.
You don’t have the right to be left alone. you are on a public forum and are putting yourself out there for open discussion. You chose to defend words of hatred and this is what the internet returns when you choose to do that. I am not following you or harassing. I am keeping the conversation relevant to the article.
You are right I do not have authority over you, and therefore CANNOT VIOLATE YOUR FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS!!!
Good luck with everything, I know deep down you are good person Frank, which is why your defense of these indefensible words confused me. I will not stop or go away, welcome to the internet Frank.
Since Retiree has challenged me again, as you have, What did you find offensive about his comments: (1) Bible (2) quoting from the bible (3) taking the biblical quotation as a personal attack on someone (4) just fact that he stated them (5) that his church donated $1,000 to family, which they rejected after public outcry (5) just because you wanted to challenge. —————— Which one, or all of them? Have you ever attended Baptists Revival, in tent placed in field. I have in Texas and heard much stronger words and comments. Or Methodists revivals during my youth.
wrong Frank. Ted Cruz did NOT speak to “people who wanted to hear him.” Students were mandated
to go hear him. If they didn’t, they would be FINED.
University started and financed through efforts of Jerry Falwell (now deceased). His son still operates Liberty University, as a moral, Christian, university, and ALL students who attend there are conservative. Have it your way, if that makes your little old brain be comfortable, but don’t even try to inject you beliefs onto them, or the instructors there. same goes for Hillsdale College where they do not accept government funds, not even student loans that leave students in debt. You impute ideas into net, that are as false and twisted as Hillary Clinton. Uninformed might even believe you.
I will also add that attending night classes at Perrin AFB Tex, taught by Univ. of Texas teacher, as AF instructor, to attain Master Instructor, I needed college credits to show additional improvement. Class directed to attend movie in town, of ‘Othello , then make verbal report, and written analysis. Some in class groaned of Shakespeare but we all learned, and was much more interesting than reading book. That was in 1963-65 years. Have heard of leading horse t water, but can’t make them drink. But can develop an interest. Works for students too.’
I want to see more Gordon’s in the GOP (the Party of Hate).
I would like to think there wouldn’t be a person who would condone and defend these words. Maybe this does represent the Republican party. It’s sad. This is literally the saddest story I have ever heard, and then to think he wrote her a check for $1000. He probably thought to himself how grateful she should be he is willing to give her money.
As Christianity wanes, Islam will fill the void mostly through immigration and demographics (or large birth rate). Most of Europe will be Islamic states by 2050. Google it if you find that hard to believe. Secularism (or atheism) results in low birth rates, as these folks dote on themselves and find raising kids to be inconvenient.
No amount of genital mutilation will change the sex of a person. Why not give state paid liposuction to anorexics.
The recent murder of the child in the womb is the result of the progressive liberal view that babies are property not people.
Look up the “negro project” run by the founder of planned parenthood.
Thanks Aldo! You really made me want to support planned parenthood, as they have been doing outreach for our most vulnerable of people.
