DEAR EDITOR: Ya ya you betcha to Governor Jared Polis on his recent action to eradicate the Electoral College and bring Colorado to a popular vote count in the presidential election.
My understanding of this antiquated writ in the Constitution was originally brought to the fore by wealthy land owners who also believed in slavery. Its intention was to protect the interests of the slave states under the guise of national common good. Excuse me…this still exists today under the name of racism and white supremacy.
Here are two examples of this awful continuum: Trump and Mitch McConnell.
The states alone have the power to make this progressive change once and for all.
America’s two hundred plus years as the ‘experiment in Democracy’ needs to finally be the standard for “of, by and for the people.”
Otherwise, we’ll continue to have the likes of a Neanderthal and the back end of an aging horse like McConnell running what has become a corporate circus.
