DEAR EDITOR: We were so delighted to see you had not forgotten about us, we just wanted to make sure you’ve heard “the usual pit bull crowd “ has been busy volunteering, educating, and acquiring additional wisdom.
Have you heard Breed Specific Legislation is losing ground? 16 states now prohibit BSL. Ohio repealed the only statewide BSL. More cities are rejecting BSL and adopting breed-neutral alternatives.
Have you heard perceptions are evolving and pit bulls are being adopted by responsible, loving families?
Have you heard Elle, the pit bull therapy dog, is the American Humane Association’s 2013 American Hero Dog?
Have you heard American Bar Association and The White House have been added to the long list of professional organizations that oppose BSL because it is ineffective and costly?
Have you heard the cost of enforcing Aurora’s breed ban was recently rolled in to the general shelter budget because it was no longer self-supporting? Or that Aurora citizens are forced to pay for DNA tests to exonerate themselves from an unreliable physical assessment?
Have you heard cities like Arvada and Littleton welcome the pit bull community and capitalize on the community building, educational and economic opportunities we offer?
We are busy working with folks that don’t feel the need to marginalize us for our efforts. We look forward to returning when Aurora shows an interest in creating a safe and humane community for everyone.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Bryant,
Community Outreach Director, ColoRADogs

It is merely a matter of time before BSL is lifted in Denver, and Aurora will follow soon after.
An excellent letter and I hope you are succesful in all your efforts. For the sake of good dogs, their families, the City of the Aurora budget and shelter, and justice.
Thank you for this article that truly speaks for so many. What is fantastic is that every day more and more people are realizing that a Pit Bull is just a dog after all!
