I wanted to comment about the lack of neighbor to neighbor involvement. I agree with Dave Perry completely. In an effort to make our lives “sanitized” by banning activities that others don’t like we have become strangers in our neighborhoods.

I remember when I was a kid, we always knew who was having a tough time, who was unemployed etc.  My dad would bring over some food and say that we had made extra by mistake and wondered if they could help him out by taking it off his hands so it didn’t spoil.  Providing food while maintaining respect.  We have no idea what problems our neighbors have so we can’t solve their problems…only government can which can not do it very successfully.

Obviously there is a balance where back in the day your neighbors knew who you were, knew your kids, yelled at them when they were screwing up and were involved in your business.  If we could only return to that day when others cared what you were doing.

I was on the Greenwood Village City council which sometimes resembled a big HOA passing ordinances at the request of someone who was too cowardly to go next door and chat with their neighbor about that dog that barked all day.

Keep up the good work.  I always read your editorials.
