As business, civic and government leaders and as members of Colorado’s Latino community, we wholeheartedly endorse Andrew Romanoff for Congress.

Andrew’s career is a testament to his courage and compassion.  He worked tirelessly in the Colorado House to improve our schools, grow our economy, and strengthen the middle class.

Those are the priorities Andrew will pursue in Washington.  Andrew will seek to expand economic opportunity, not just for some Americans but for all of us.  He’ll fight to ensure equal pay for equal work; to create good, clean-energy jobs; and to bring the cost of higher education within reach of every student.

Andrew is a genuine champion — and in this race, the only supporter — of comprehensive immigration reform.  He understands the hardship and fear that Congress’s inaction has inflicted on so many families.  He knows that real reform requires a reasonable path to citizenship.  Andrew strongly supports the DREAM Act and the bipartisan reform plan passed last year by the U.S. Senate.  As a member of the House, Andrew will petition for a vote on these important measures.

Andrew’s opponent, Congressman Mike Coffman, has very different priorities.  He voted to slash financial aid for college students, to end the guarantee of Medicare for older Americans, and to shift more of the tax burden onto middle-class families.  He even voted to preserve tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas.

Congressman Coffman opposes the Senate immigration reform bill and its House counterpart, refuses to offer a comprehensive alternative, and described the DREAM Act as a “nightmare.” He has voted repeatedly to dismantle the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, effectively subjecting 800,000 DREAMers to the threat of immediate deportation.

Colorado deserves a representative who shares our priorities.  We need common-sense leadership on the economy, education and immigration policy.  We need Andrew Romanoff in Congress.

  1. I wonder how many of these signatories actually lives in District 6. As the letter states: “Colorado deserves a representative who shares our priorities….” That’s just a slippery way of saying we probably don’t live in your district, but we’re going to tell you what your priorities should be.

Once again, Andrew Romanoff’s astroturf support attempts to come to his rescue. Oh wait, that’s right, even he only lives in District 6 to run for this seat.

    1. Astroturf? These signatories are Latino “business, civic and government leaders.” They are not claiming to be grassroots voters from District 6.

      1. Right, Koko, but their voices would carry far more validity if they did. if you remember your studies back in Talking Ape High School… or Buckeye Boys State… it’s the US Senate whose members represent an entire state’s population. The US House of Representatives is comprised of members who represent the people living in districts within a state. It should follow in this case that the voices we voters should listen to most are civic leaders from within District 6. The astroturf, Koko, starts with running out-of-state, quid pro quo campaign donations through yo’ mamma in Cali, holding out-of-district fundraisers, and generally drawing “grassroots” resources from outside the district you’re claiming to represent. But, that’s business as usual for a profession politician who’s never done anything else in his life.

        1. 🙂 Luckily, I had to learn some high school civics when I worked as a legislative aide. I am not saying the letter could have more weight if different people had signed it. I am saying that it is not pretending to be something it is not, which is your objection, I think. It is just a bunch of businessmen and civic leaders, that’s all.

  2. Those names would be valid if he was still campaigning against Bennet, and probably date from the. I don’t remember any of them involved with we Veterans-Seniors trying to get new VAMC in Aurora, when Fitzsimons closed in 1997. And I don’t remember any of them or Andy Romanoff being involved with us when Lowry closed in 1994, although with economy booming under Republican administration, this turned into a real job producer for Denver and Aurora, with growth, and Republicans getting I-25 widened and improved so folks could drive from Colorado Springs, to work in Denver. And also Denverites could drive to Colorado Springs to work. But somehow with all the talk of jobs, jobs, jobs, and stimulus, economy is still in the tank in Colordo. And Ritter-Hickenlooper signing bills has transferred jobs out of state to other, more welcoming states. Why do we need a carpet bagger (as over many past elections) moving from Denver to run against our District 6 candidates, who did produce jobs and security? Just asking. I thought Andrew (Andy) Romanoff a good match in Denver County-City as Speaker of House in the good years. But I see a difference since he ran against Bennet, and he still does not realize Representatives are supposed to know the constituents in district where they campaign. Kind of like Mary Well in Kentucky who signed many PACS in Colorado, to attack Republicans over past couple years. I suspect Andy thinks their Spanish-Mexican-Latino last name will enduce votes from those with purchased IDs with names not their own. Just a guess.

    1. Before anyone vote their ballot after 14 Oct, may want to find out what ActBlue is buying with giving Romandoff $944,608 dollars by 30 June 2014. What is their agenda, since they support only Democrats? ———
Check out Hispanic Business Roundtable Institute in Washington D.C. and review listing of who they support in 2014 Elections across Country in the House. This report was posted 24 September 2014 and lists 13 Legislators in States with close election projected, and majority they support are Republicans. One Democrat in Texas. Easily found on net in search.—————
Mike Coffman in Colorado is supported. I suspect they know who will support small businesses in USA better than the lobbyist or PACs with agendas. Just a guess.

  3. So all the Hispanic Democrats endorse Romanoff because he supports amnesty and government vote-buying giveaways. No surprise there. They also claim to speak for the entire Colorado Latino community. I wonder what Libby Szabo, Robert Ramirez, Clarice Navarro-Ratzlaff, George Rivera, Beth Martinez Humenik, or any of tens of thousands of Colorado Hispanics who aren’t radical Progressives would say….

  4. Before jumping on board with Romanoff, fact check his letter. He has a lot of 1/2 truths and lies about Mike Coffman in this letter.
