DEAR EDITOR: As the third largest city in Colorado, Aurora can hardly be called a “suburb.” To call it such do is lazy and ignorant reporting. Understanding the geography, population, and nexus of cities in Colorado should be a standard part of good journalism. To continuously cite every city within 50 miles of Denver as a “suburb” shows a lack of knowledge and basic research. The people that read the Sentinel deserve better. Reader size is no excuse for inaccuracies or generalizations. Suburbs have a definition and your writers are unaware of the connotations of casual usage.
If this journal needs help with Colorado, please let me know. I would be happy to review articles for accuracy. I’m a Colorado native and I live here (not sure your staff does), so my help would “help you” retain legitimacy among your readers. If, as I suspect, this is paper deviates from journalistic standards, then I know I won’t hear back.
For future reference … the third largest city in any state is not a suburb. If a CITY has suburbs of its own, as Aurora does, it is not a suburb itself.
