Dear Editor,
I am a retired educator who taught in the Aurora schools for 20 years and I know a schoolyard bully when I see one. Donald Trump, who does not value decency, fairness or family — who threatens those he doesn’t like with lawsuits or violence — could become president unless people like your readers, people like me, vote against him.
If you, like me, have grandsons, please don’t vote for Trump. Under Trump, our boys are much more likely to end up in body bags. Threats, provocations, bluster and itchy trigger fingers invite greater violence from our enemies and will create a more violent society. We need leaders who are experienced peace makers, not uninformed war mongers. Even longstanding Republican national security experts are sounding the alarm about Trump. We are stronger as a country and our children are better off when our country is stable.
If you, like me, have a granddaughter, please vote against Trump. Our daughters and granddaughters will be robbed of their ability to make basic decisions over their own bodies under a Trump presidency. I’m guessing you don’t like to see men on the street cat calling or yelling insults at your daughters and granddaughters. Are you really okay with a president who publicly sexualizes women, talks about their bodies or calls them “fat pigs”? Presidential role model Trump would give a green light to bullying, harassment, treating women like objects and will undo laws that enable women to protect themselves.
I have heard that I should overlook these issues because Trump is strong. Well, so are the schoolyard bullies — they may be strong, but they are certainly not safe. If we stand with decency and humanity, we need to vote for anyone but Trump.
